Dear Liberty,
You have been gone from this world now for 6 weeks. Your death was so tragic and so senseless. I wanted you to know some things. On 12-29-04 it was decided between Mid Michigan Boxer Rescue and Voice Of Animals to pull you out of the Animal Control you were in. You were going to come here on 1-4-05 and have a nice place to have your babiesThen when your pups were weaned and you were vetted and spayed you was going to go to Beth at Mid Michigan Boxer Rescue until the perfect family came for you, and your pups would stay here, and continue to grow and have their vetting done be spayed and neutered and also wait till the perfect family was found for them.However time was not on your side. You delivered 8 puppies on 1-2-05 just 2 days before your stray time was up at Animal Control and you could leave. Liberty we had every thing arranged for you to come we had transport set we had a nice clean and warm loving place for you to come , there were many awaiting your arrival . Imagine all of our surprise and heart ache when Animal Control informed us you would not be allowed to leave after all and that your pups would not either. It seems you did what every good momma in a strange and hostile place would do you tried to protect your new born babies . The Animal Control worker needed to clean your pen and feed you, you went after them in fear they were going to hurt your babies. Liberty when that happened Animal Control deemed you aggressive, yes I and many others know you were not, but you see they have to follow the law at Animal Control they do not release aggressive dogs. We were all very heart sick of this news and even more so when we were told your innocent babies also would be put to sleep, cause if momma is aggressive so would her babies be. That is when a chain of events went into play a wonderful volunteer named Pat from Voice Of Animals Rescue called the commissioner at his home at 11:30 at night and begged for mercy for your babies and you too. Liberty, Pat was able to get Animal Control to release your babies but they would not release you. We tried really we did. We went into plan "B" for your soon to be orphans we had transport set and they would all come here to Voice Of Animals Rescue with me I would be their momma for you. Liberty as I write this to you I sit with tears I still morn you even through I never met you. On 1-4-05 my husband and I drove over 2 hours one way to meet Sue the nice lady who picked up your babies from Animal Control . Liberty the whole way I kept saying to you I would take care your babies I sure hope you heard me in your finial hours here on earth. Liberty I know that they had put you to sleep before the babies were even picked up because when I met Sue at the meeting spot one of your baby boys had already passed away and the rest of them were in critical condition they were weak and dehydrated. Liberty I want you to know that I never let my husband drive when we go away together but that day he drove back the 2+ hours so I could start caring for your babies. Liberty I did my best but your sweet little girl I named Lilly passed away the next day. Two of your pups had passed away while they were still at Animal Control. Liberty I cant tell you what a long drive it was coming back I was so afraid we wouldn't make it back in time to save the pups. Your babies have had many medical problems and hurdles as I call them but Liberty I am happy to say that they today are 6 weeks old and I do believe they are out of the woods and the 4 babies will survive.Your surviving girl is named in Honor of you . It has been a very long and trying 6 weeks but at last I can relax and start to enjoy them. I think of you daily I will never forget you Liberty. I want you to know that many nice people are and have been praying and pulling for your sweet babies. You still have my word that I will take care your babies I will find them the best homes where they will grow and live a happy life and they will never end up in an Animal Control to face God knows what. Liberty what was done to you and your babies was not right but Sweet Girl we did try to get you out.
To those of you reading this letter to Liberty I just want you to know the name of the Animal Control is being with held but it could have happened in ANY Animal Control ....If you think Liberty's story and fate was wrong then work on changing the laws do not fault Animal Control for up-holding the law.
Good Bye Sweet Liberty I will keep my promise to you...You rest in peace.
