Elbert Dubenion
Elbert
Dubenion was a non-descript player from tiny Bluffton college in Ohio when
he joined the Bills in 1960. However, he made an immediate impression in
the first training camp. With his lightning speed, he was dubbed, "Golden
Wheels," by his teammates and went on to a brilliant AFL career with the
Bills. He finished his career as the Bills all-time receiving leader, until
a guy named Andre Reed came along. In 1964 Dubenion caught 42 balls for
a whopping 1139 yards. That's an average of 27.1 yards per catch! An all-time
AFL record. He finished with 296 receptions for 5309 yards, an average
of 17.9 yards per catch and scored 35 TDs. He still holds the Bills record for consecutive games with a TD reception, with 5. Dubenion went on to become an
NFL scout for the Bills, as well as the Dolphins and now works for the
Atlanta Falcons.
