Henry Jones

Drafted by the Bills in the first round, 26th overall in 1991, Henry Jones became a starter in 1992 when he replaced fan favorite Leonard Smith who's career was ended by a staff infection to his knee. Jones made fans quickly forget about Smith as he intercepted two passes in a September 20th game against the Indianapolis Colts, returning both for touchdowns in a 38-0 Bills blowout. Henry went on to intercept six more passes that season, earning him a trip to the Pro Bowl. Even though Jones would not return to the Pro Bowl again in his stellar career as the Bills strong safety, his consistent, hard nosed playing style made him revered by players and coaches alike.

From the 1995 season through the 2000 season Henry Jones recorded over 100 tackles in five out of those six years. The only season he didn't have over 100 tackles was in 1996, when a broken leg in the fifth game against the Colts put him out for the season. Jones was on pace to record 122 tackles that year as well. In 1997 Henry Jones would come back from that injury in the best shape of his life and would go on the start in every game from there on out, 61 consecutive games to be exact. He was selected by fans to the Bills All Millennium team in 1999.

In his career, Henry Jones has scored five career touchdowns. Four have been on defense and come on interception returns. Only Butch Byrd and Tom Janik (5 each)have more career interception touchdowns than Jones. The other touchdown came on speacial teams when he returned an on-side kick attempt 37 yards for a touchdown at Arizona in 1999.That score gave him the distinction of the shortest kickoff return for a touchdown in team history.
