The President's Role as Judicial Leader

    There are many roles that a President plays.  The most important role the the President plays is he can appoint judges to the Supreme and Federal Courts.  This is important because it keeps this presidents influence in the government after he/she leaves office.



    A President is the person who chooses the Judicial Leader.  Once a Judicial Leader is chosen they hold that position for life.  Most likely a President will choose a leader with the same beliefs and opinions as the President.  When a President leaves office the Judicial Leader stays and the influence of the President who chose him stays in the government.

    The Supreme Court has great power to affect our lives.  The Supreme Court affects our lives by interpreting laws, protects all the rights of mankind, decides if laws are Constitutional, and settles arguements between states and cases involving the federal government.

    The President has other important roles as Judicial Leader.  The President can grant someone a pardon.  A pardon is a declaration of forgiveness and freedom from a punishment.  He may also grant a reprieve.  When the President grants a reprieve he orders a delay of carrying out ones sentence or court order.  Another thing he can do is give a group of people a pardon when is given to members of group who have broken the law.  This is called an amnesty.
