VOLUME 2

Lesson 1

BIBLIOLOGY....THE MAJESTIC DOCTRINE OF THE SCRIPTURES

TOPIC...REVELATION

I. DEFINING REVELATION

1) Revelation is the content of God's disclosing himself to man.

2) Revelation (put another way) is the mind of God expressed to man.

II. DIFFERENT CATEGORIES OF REVELATION

1) NATURAL REVELATION - The world of nature.

Natural revelation is seen in:

A) Creation - Romans 1:20 - His Creation reveals 3 things about God.

* His Divine Power - Romans 1:20a

* His Divine Person - Romans 1:20b

* His Divine Punishment - Romans 1:20c

When man rejects God's revelation they fall into 3 areas of sin:

* Idolatry - Romans 1:23

* Immorality - Romans 1:24 - 28

* Indifference - Romans 1:32

B) Conscience of man - Romans 1: 18, 19

2) SPECIAL REVELATION

It came 3 ways:

A) Theophany - Visible appearance of God in some form.

* In the form of 'man' - Genesis 18: 1 - 14; Joshua 5: 13 - 15 (We call this a pre-incarnate appearance of Jesus Christ.)

* In the form of 'burning bush' - Exodus 3:16

* In the form of a 'cloudy pillar' - Exodus 33:7 - 9

* In the form of 'Shekinah Glory' - 2 Chronicles 7: 1 - 3

B) Prophets - Jeremiah 1: 4 - 9

C) Miracles - It affirmed that what they said was from God - I Kings 17: 17 - 24. Throughout the Gospels Jesus did many miracles to affirm that His message was from God. Also the apostles did the same - 2 Corinthians 12:12

3) WRITTEN REVELATION - Our Bibles
