II. CLAIMS THAT THE NEW TESTAMENT IS GOD'S WORD
1) Paul claimed the N.T. as God's Word - I Timothy 5:17, 18
* In 5:18a, it is a quote from O.T. - Deuteronomy 25:4
* In 5:18b, He quotes from the Lord Jesus in the Gospels - Luke 10:7
* So in one verse Paul quotes from the O.T. and N.T. affirming that both are Scripture.2) Peter claimed the N.T. as God's Word - 2 Peter 3:15, 16 (He talks about Paul's writings as Scripture.)
* That means ALL of Paul's Epistles from Romans through Philemon were all Scripture or the Word of God.
3) John claimed the N.T.as God's Word - Revelation 2:1; 2:7; 2:8; 2:11; 2:12; 2:17; 2:18; 2:29; 3:1; 3:6; 3:7; 3:13; 3:14; 3:22
* In other words, John was saying that all the revelation was coming from Jesus Christ, though him, and that the whole message was of the Holy Spirit.
III. CLAIMS OF THE LORD JESUS IN RELATION TO GOD'S WORD
1) He declared Himself the theme of the Scriptures - Luke 24:27; Luke 24:44; John 5:39
2) He declared He came to fulfill the Scriptures - Matthew 5:17, 18
3) He declared that Scripture can't be broken. - John 10: 31-36
4) He declared the duration of Scripture - Matthew 24:35; Luke 16:17
5) He delared that the Scriptures can keep us from error - Mark 12:18-27
6) He declared that the O.T. and it's characters were true.
He affirms the truth of:* Noah and the flood - Luke 17:26, 27
* Lot and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah - Luke 17:28, 29
* Lot's wife - Luke 17:32
* Jonah and the great fish - Matthew 12:40
* Moses and burning bush - Mark 12:26
* Adam and Eve - Matthew 19:4, 5
* Manna from heaven - John 6:30 - 32
* Brazen serpent lifted up in the wilderness - John 3:147) He declared the sufficiency of Scripture to save men - Luke 16:22-29
8) He declared certain words to fulfill Scripture
