Blood and Concrete

Libido.  It's the new drug of choice, leaving its users happy, horny, and desperate for more.  And when the sole supplier of Libido is murdered in his Hollywood Hills home, L.A.'s rich and ruthless embark on a frenzied search for their love drug.  Billy Zane (Dead Calm) stars as Joey Turks, a penny-ante thief falsely accused of the murder.  As the prime suspect, he's also the prime target for Libido's love-crazed addicts.  Among the afflicted are a suicidal nympomaniac (Jennifer Beals, Flashdance), her thrash-rock lover who "makes the Marquis de Sade look like Pat Boone," an obese underworld kingpin, and his psychotic boytoy.  And while they're pursuing Joey, deranged police detective Hank Dick (Nightstalker's Darren McGavin, in a deliriously over-the-top performance) is pursuing them.  Driven by an offbeat sense of humor and a powerhouse soundtrack (featuring Andy Prieboy, Nuclear Assault and others), BLOOD & CONCRETE is the hippest, hottest black comedy since After Hours.

Running time 97 min. RCA/Columbia Pictures Home Video 1990.  Rated R

Personal Rating:

I laughed my way pretty much through the entire movie.  It's hilarious.  It's kind of an off-color type humor and it gives you a sense of how crazy some people are.  But I think that only true die-hard Billy Zane and Jennifer Beals fans will appreciate it.  Bonus, as always, Billy looks really good in this one and if my ears are right, it sounds like him singing a Sinatra-type song in the middle of this film.  I could be wrong, maybe that's not him singing, but it really sounds like him. :-p

On a scale of 1-10, I give it a 8
