Dragon*Con 2002
Ah, Dragon*Con. More a party con than Origins, more a gaming con than MarCon, D*Con is a biggie. And since it's in Atlanta, I don't have to worry about air or hotel fare (as of now). So, when Labor Day weekend rolls around, I dig out the dice and get set for some serious gaming. (Lots of folks get set for serious drunkeness. I'm not among, in part because that ain't my thing, and in part because since I've lost weight my already pitiful tolerance has dropped considerably. None for me, thanks.)
     This year, as
last year, I had a bunch of people staying with me and hanging out with me. Just to get it out of way, let's introduce...
The Crew
Kylee
Matt
Colin
Michael
Pammit
Joana
Chris
Heather
Hanneke
Lisa
So, much of the crew arrived Thursday. Myself included, actually; I'd been in Ohio doing family stuff. So, we hung out at the Matt-Cave, played some cards, and generally rested up for the Con.
Friday, the Con began. Yee-ha! First thing on my agenda was a game of
Werewolf, so we saddled up and headed on out. And discovered, as last year, that all 3 of my games were full. Seems to happen. (I also discovered that Dragon*Con had given me a badge, despite the fact that I was running 3 games, rather than the 5 they said I had to run. Smart choice, I think, given that my games do tend to fill and all.)
So my friends were bummed that they couldn't play in my games (they wound up being able to do so, but more on that later). We played Fluxx for a while whilst waiting for a table at which to play. Picture at right. I highly recommend Fluxx, from
Looney Labs.
     So the
Werewolf game went fine, they found their missing Kinfolk and discovered a Nexus Crawler had slithered into his skin. I'll thank Chris Howard for the idea for the game. Picture of that group at far right.
And during that game, Kylee and Lisa fell asleep on a table. No, they weren't playing in that game.

The Werewolf Group
After Werewolf, we ventured up to the White Wolf booth to wait for Michael (see below, the booth in all its glory, before the roof started leaking). And then we all went to dinner at Hark Rock Cafe. Bad choice; food's not bad, but I thought it would've been nice to hear the people I was eating with.
Hard Rock Cafe pics at right and below.
Not sure who's hand that is on the left.
However, at right, you'll note Hanneke standing on a chair eating a cherry all seductive-like. It was her birthday, y'know, so they had to humiliate her.
So, after dinner we just went back to my place and watched a movie and chilled out. Didn't stay up too late that night.
Next day, Chris thought he had purchased tickets for a 9:00 AM game. He didn't realize until we were about to walk out the door that he had tickets for a 1:00 PM that day. But hey, we were all up. So, back to the Con.
The guy on the left at the photo at left is Adam, known on the forums as (whatever his handle is this week). The guy on the right is Ryan, one of the local yokels and a friend of mine. He's one of folks who doesn't spend D*Con sober, so we didn't see much of him.
At right, check out two very good arguements for marriage. That'd be my wife and Colin's wife.
So, people aside, I had a game to run.
Dark Ages: Vampire, in fact. It's the third time I'd run this game, and it pretty much turns out differently each time. This time, they wound up ambushing their ambushers. Clever, clever Cainites. Check out the photo.
After the Dark Ages game, we headed back to my place again and I finally made good on a year-old promise to run a Vampire game for Hanneke and Lisa (everybody else played too, of course, minus Heather and Jo, who aren't really gamers). Tell you what, though: Gaming and being served lasanga by two beautiful women is not an experience to miss, if you have the means.
Next day, we headed back to the game for another round o' gaming.
Exalted this time (more specifically, Dragon-Blooded). Picture at left.
Somewhere in the Friday madness, Pammit bought a sword and a Sluggy T-Shirt (below).
Somewhere in the Saturday madness, Lisa bought a million buttons from the Fantasm booth. I was going to buy a T-shirt, but they didn't have the one I wanted (and it's really too...graphic...for me to wear anyway).
This game went OK, but I needed more time. It was a murder mystery, very much like an Agatha Christie, and that takes set-up. I've run it before and I really thought I could squeeze it into 4 hours, but that wasn't to be.
So, during my Exalted game, Colin had been running Mummy (he later ran that Mummy game for us at my place. Again, food and gaming. Mmm.).
Next day was Monday. Colin and Jo to the aiport early, and then we went shopping. I always buy T-shirts. Michael bought a sword (it's like an epidemic).
And then, that afternoon, I had to drive Kylee and Chris to the airport, and finally the house was empty. Dragon*Con is always a blast, no matter what your taste. See ya next year!
So Long!
Farewell!
Oh, by the way. Here's some quotes from the pick-up games that Colin and I ran.
