Thoughts on MarCon 37... |
MarCon time, once again, has come and gone. I attended (again) and did the whole game-master thing. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I was only able to run one game this year, but played in a couple and generally had a great time hanging out with my friends and playing a very cool card game called Geeks: The Convention. (I also spent a large chunk of the weekend working on a Dark Ages book, because I'm a frickin' workaholic.) Anyway, on to some pictures! |
So, I got to the con on Friday afternoon, and had several hours to kill before registration opened. I worked for a while, basically killed time. When registration did open...yikes. Not much better organized than last year, though I had an easier time of finding what line to be in since I wasn't a free-GM this year. Plus they had some computer problems. Ah, well. Eventually, Cutch and his posse showed up (see Cutch, at right) as did my friend Hanneke (at far right). We chatted for a while, and then I went to dinner with my friend Diane (whom I did not think to snap a pic of, dammit). Anyway, when I got back, I played in Andy Mack's Adventure! game. Since I'll be running this game with my usual gamers soon, I'm glad I got a chance to play. I love pulp. I highly recommend buying Adventure! (Natch, I'm a little biased.) |
Raiders of the lost Terminators? |
So after the Adventure! game we hang around and played Geeks (Dawn, Hanneke, and Chris doing so at right). And somewhere around there, Cutch wound up on the floor. Again. |
Saturday, once we dragged our butts out of bed, I wound up working on the book I was redlining for a while and playing Geeks, basically killing time until I had to run my game. I did, however, see some strange and beautiful things in the game room and beyond. |
Clockwise, from top: The lady doing a puppet show, the blimp flying around the game room, Batgirl and a Stormtrooper (don't ask me) and Joann in her lovely new dress. |
I did indeed run a game this con, and it was (fittingly enough) Dark Ages: Vampire. I had hoped to be able to sell, or at least show off, copies of the core book, but they hadn't come in yet. The game went well, however, and there were several folks who said they'd buy the core book when it comes out - always nice to hear. Joann won the prize (a copy of World of Darkness: Mafia) but I gave Matt a copy of Under the Black Cross as a kind of runner-up prize (it was close between them). No fatalities, interestingly enough, but then it wasn't really a combat game. |
Stayed up for a while longer after the Dark Ages game, talking to Gina, mostly. And then my brother decided he was going to run a Chill game the next morning. So we all made characters at something like 4:00 AM and the next day, sure enough, played Chill. The game was as surreal as I've come to expect from my brother's games (which is pretty damned surreal) although he did remember that since we were playing at a con, we were on a limited time budget (sorry, Jon, but your games do tend to run long!). Anyway, a good time was had by all (and you can see the sleepy players, at left) and we all headed back to our respective cities... |
So, final thoughts: MarCon is still a lot of fun, and I'll be back next year. Until then, I'm planning on Origins 2002 being the next con I'm at, and this time, I will indeed have copies of the new Dark Ages: Vampire book! Catch you there? |
Check it out. Quotes from the Chill game. |
