Clean Slate

The darkness that looms
Over the once glistening horizon
It speaks to me, tells me of it's pain
The pure, untouched agony that it holds inside
The crackling of the flames, blaring sirens in the distance
Beyond all of this, doves may be crying
Beyond all this, one more soul may be sent along
I can see the gentle flood of sunlight creep over the mountains
Feel the touch of warmth and gentle caress 'gainst my cheek
An angel's nudge, perhaps
The morning mist trickles along my skin
Concrete, sturdy yet cracked 'neath my feet
Tears trace my disregard for reality, for what might have been
These things send me along, along from this place
History may have been carved into my soul
Though the sweet kisses of memories will never be replaced

Midday walk on Sept. 15th
The day her doctor told me she would die soon,
I remember riding the bus home, wondering why everyone was talking and laughing.  My world had been turned upside down, but the sun shone bright.

I thought of that today as I walked through my neighborhood.  Children played, couples kissed, people worked and shopped and even smiled.  The world has turned upside down, but the sun shines bright.  And we go on.

Winds
Blowing through canyons
Winds swirl paper and debris,
Dust of mighty walls.
The Eagle cannot land now;
Sadly, his eyes fill with tears.

No More

Death so needless
What's it mean?
Unrealistic
Just a dream?

Lives are wasted,
For what purpose?
So Bin Laden can say
He cursed us?

Rally to arms!
A cry, "To War!"
We will take this ****
no more!

Raise the flag.
Country pride.
Freedom for which
Many died.

Hate us!  Fear us!
We don't care
Soon we'll leave
Your desert bare.

One day soon,
All will end.
Then our hearts and minds
Can mend.

Terror gone.
No more worries.
Distant memories
Told in stories.

Darkness looms over Lady Liberty
As she stands forever tall
Holding her torch against the sky,
A light for one and all.

As smoke billows from the turmoil
And burns her watchful eyes
She holds her head still taller
With her crown mounted on high.

Never shifting in her stance,
Her feet will never rise
Planted firmly built on the rock
Where freedom was yet again tried.

Though many souls have fallen
For everything she stands,
She's a symbol to keep us from failing,
Supported by God's mighty hand.

A beacon shining to millions,
A nation of free and brave
A country with pride and humility
And an oath to protect and to save

As thunder rolls with rumors
Of war and untold fears,
Heal our wounds of terror
And wipe away our tears
