Vlatkovich/Roper Brass Duo

Veteran brass players of the L.A. improvising scene, Michael Vlatkovich (trombone) and William Roper (tuba), have finally done what everyone has been telling them to do for years - document their zany antics. "Chobraty" is a co-led project with compositions by Vlatkovich.

The written material provides a jump-off point for the duo to have their way with each other. No matter how far afield they go, home is never forgotten. At times it is difficult to determine which parts are written and which are improvised. The duo masterfully blurs the line.

Michael Vlatkovich Michael Vlatkovich has numerous recordings as a leader on his vitae. In addition, he has sidelined with such artists as Peggy Lee, Brian Setzer, Bryan Adams, Bobby Bradford, Gerry Hemingway, Rob Blakeslee, Rich Halley and Vinny Golia among many others.

William Roper has four recordings as a leader and four as co-leader. He has sidelined with Bobby Bradford, Wadada Leo Smith, Vinny Golia, Yusef Lateef, Adam Rudolf, John Rapson, Horace Tapscott, Luckman Jazz Orchestra, Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Kim Richmond and many more. He plays the conch shell with the L.A. Philharmonic.
