This will be the same program as the Sept. 26 and Oct. 4 shows except for replacing my Images of Issey Miyaki with Michael Vlatkovich's If Here Were There There Would Be Here. Vinny Golia does the honors on the Clarinet Rap.

William Roper presents TUBA TUNES and TALES. Tubaist William Roper will serve-up a varied menu of original compositions and spoken word spiced with some tralatitious bits from the musical and literary worlds.

He will give two performances, one on September 26, 2002 at CSU Dominguez Hills and one on October 4 at the Meridian Gallery in San Francisco. On September 26, he will be assisted in his efforts by refulgent reedist Kim Richmond and recrudescent choreographer/dancer Betty Gonzales Nash. On October 4, his sous chefs will be clarinetist Jeff Chan and choreographer/dancer Margit Galanter.

William Roper has side-lined with the Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, American Jazz Institute ensembles, The Luckman Jazz Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Yusef Lateef, Jimmy Cleveland, Wadada Leo Smith, Horace Tapscott, Vinny Golia, Glenn Horiuchi, Clay Jenkins, John Rapson, Kim Richmond, Adam Rudolph, Michael Vlatkovich and Francis Wong. He co-leads the duo Judicanti Responsura, the Flatterzunge Trio and the quartet Double Yellow. He has received awards from the NEA, CAC, L.A. Cultural Affairs Dept., Brody Arts Fund, ArtMatters Inc., Meet the Composer, Djerassi Resident Artist Program, American Composers Forum and the Durfee Foundation. He has released two albums as a co-leader: The Lament of Absalom and Double Yellow and as a leader: Juneteenth. These concerts mark the release of his new spoken word project: Roper's Darn! Yarns.

KIM RICHMOND is an active and versatile musician based in the Los Angeles area. He has been involved in nearly every facet of the professional music industry, both as a player and as a composer/arranger. Kim has been a member of the orchestras of Stan Kenton, Louis Bellson, Bob Florence, Clare Fischer, Bill Holman, and Vinny Golia among others.

JEFF CHAN has performed across the country as both a leader of his own ensembles and as a guest artist with various artists. He has performed in the Knitting Factory's New York Jazz Festival, the Chicago Asian American Jazz Festival, the Malcolm X Jazz and Arts Festival, and the San Francisco's Asian American Jazz Festival.

BETTY GONZALES NASH is a performance artist who has created works which range from the humorous to the bizarre and exotic. She co-founded Tomato Sage Consortium with William Roper; has created with Open Gate Theatre and Dance/LA, Dark Horses Collective and has danced with Gene Marinaccio, Donald Byrd/The Group and Repertory Dance Theatre of L.A.

MARGIT GALANTER is an improvisational movement artist and investigator. She performs, teaches, and organizes communal live arts events around the U.S. Her current movement includes work with Karen Nelson, Lisa Nelson, Pearl Ubungen, Hijack, Joan Hanna, BodyCartography, and (in)visible realms. Influential forms include the FeldenkraisŪ Method, tuning scores, Wild Goose Qigong, Contact Improvisation, and Amerta Movement (which she studies with Suprapto Suryodarmo).
