Garnet is the young Princess of Alexandria. Her mother has recently began to act strangely after the death of her father, the King. When a theatre group visits the city, she sees an opportunity to escape, little realising that the group themselves have been hired to kidnap the young Princess. Garnet is naive and very curious about the outside world, early in the story she assumes the name Dagger as an alias.

Steiner is the leader of the Knights of Pluto. In his position, he is jointly responsible for Princess Garnet's safety along with the soldier's leader Beatrix. He is extremely loyal to Garnet and Alexandria and appears to be blind to the change in the Queen. Steiner has an instant dislike for Zidane and views him as a dangerous criminal.
Name: Vivi Ornitier
Occupation: Black Mage orphan

Vivi is a young Black Mage child. After his Grandfather died he left his home and journeyed the world by himself. Vivi ends up in the city of Alexandria to see the play, "I want to be your canary", but ends up being mixed up with Zidane and the others. Vivi becomes upset and depressed when Black Mage drones, bearing a strong resemblance to him attack neighbouring countries.

Amarant is an Outlaw on the run, the kind of person who just looks for a fight. He has a past connection with Zidane, who intrigues him, so decides to join the party.

Quina is a member of the Gormond tribe who live in various swamps. The tribe have a strong affinity with food and their goal is to try every dish of food in existence, thus they are expert chefs. Quina's favourite food however are the frogs who live in the Gormond's swamps.

Occupation: Dragon Knight

Freya was one of the finest Dragon Knights in Bermicia. When her boyfriend, the legendary Dragon Knight Sir Fratley went missing, she roamed the world searching for him without success. She currently drifts from place to place and is an old friend of Zidane. She meets him again in Lindbium at the annual Festival of the Hunt, travelling with him when she hears her home country has been invaded.

Eiko is the last survivor of the tribe of Summoners. Nearly all of her tribe were wiped out in a natural disaster before she was born. After her Grandfather died she was the last one left, except for the Moogles that are her companions. Despite a promise she made not to leave her home till she reached the age of 16, she decides to join Zidane and his comrades.
