By studying the Bible we know that Paul was in Corinth. That he had written his letter to the Roman Christians. That this congregation had to have been made up of mostly Gentiles for Paul to have wanted to be there(Paul was the Apostle to the Gentiles not the Jew). That the Church of Christ in Rome was very important to help spread the Gospel of Christ. At this time the Roman Empire was so powerful that people really paid attention to what was going on there, many travelers came through Rome on there trips from near and far and carrying news of what they had seen to the many places they were from. Paul wanted to be sure everything was set up and done right in the Church there, for them to be a true example for other Churches(congregations) to go by.
We also know by reading chapter one that Peter could not have set up or estabished the Church in Rome, because Paul speaks of wanting to impart spirtual gifts (laying of hands or miraculous gifts, knowledge of the word or better understanding) to them, this shows that they did not have these things already from another apostle. In his letter he also tells them that Christ was the promise that God made in the old testament. It also tells us that, he Paul was chosen to be an apostle by God to preach the Gospel.
That God the son(Christ) came in the flesh to end death, by salvation and the washing away of our sins through the precious blood that he shed on the cross, so that we may be able to go the Father and ask forgiveness for sins we commit (for all things we must ask in the name of Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior).
It also tells us that Paul was a teacher to Christians as well as sinners. That the Gospel of Christ is for ALL people. God revealed all things in the New Testament for us to become Christians and have a hope of heaven and if we chose to live a sinful life and serve the devil, we have no excuse when we are sent to hell for ignoring his commandments or for choosing to be disobedience to them. The judgement (THE WORD) for these choice's is just. |
