Chapter 4- Summary
By M. Cantrell
Some of the Jews thought that the Gospel was meant only for the Jews. However the conversion of Cornelius proved this to be wrong
for he was a Gentile. The Jews also thought that the Gentiles had to keep the Law of Moses also.  Apostle Paul is saying in this chapter
that Abraham was justified without keeping the law. He was justified by his faith in God.  God told Abraham he would have a son and although he and his wife were beyond the age to bear children, he still believed God would keep his promise.  This faith was counted unto him for righteousness.

David was also forgiven for the terrible sins he committed because of his faith.  He asked for forgiveness. This blessedness of forgiveness of sins, does it come on the circumcision alone?  The answer is NO.  Abraham was uncircumcised at the time that he was told that he would have a son. He was not circumcised for at least 14 years after the time it was said of him "his faith was counted for righteousness".

The promise is not only to the ones who were under the Law but to those who like Abraham lived by faith.  This lesson is for us today, that if we believe in Christ, which brings us to obedience, we will be rewarded as Abraham was.
