Hunter x Hunter Shakespeare Challenge |
||||||||||||||||
![]() |
||||||||||||||||
Write a fic based on a Shakespearian play; meaning I want a story that either follows the same major plot points, but not a regurgitation of the play with the HxH characters' names plugged in, or a story about the characters putting on the play. | ||||||||||||||||
Rules and Guidelines | ||||||||||||||||
1) You can do any play except "Romeo and Juliet," which is so overused that it has become a fanfiction cliche (and throw tomatoes at me if you want, but I don't really like the play much either). If you really think you can do a good version of the play though, one that will just blow my socks off, go ahead; I just don't want 20 versions (I should be so optomistic) of the same story. 2) ABSOLUTELY DO NOT just take the play and plug in the main characters' names. 3) Don't use the exact lines from the play either - a few here and there are okay though, even desirable if implemented well. 4) Do not write it in play format. 5) It goes without saying that the characters must be as IC as possible, so be careful which roles you cast them in - true I don't want it to be exactly like the play, but I also don't want it to be completely different. 6) Major bonus points if the story isn't AU. -- AU means that it doesn't take place in the HxH world - Not being AU doesn't mean that it has to fit in with the canonical timeline. -- Simple guidline to follow for this: It takes place any time after the Hunter Exam, beyond that it can be as TWT as you like. |

Putting on the Play | ||||||||||||||||
Actually having the characters put on the play is another story entirely (pun not intended). While it exempts you from some of the rules above, there are also additional rules. 1) You need an explaination for why the play is being put on - obviously, if you're doing AU the explaination can simply be that it's a school production or the characters are part of a drama group, but if it isn't AU, and you want to have people that are not allies by any stretch of the word in the play together you'll definitely need some kind of explaination for why they're cooperating. 2) You need to include all - or at least most - of the aspects of putting on a play; from casting, to rehersals, to last minute panic, to backstage chaos. 3) You do not need to do the entire play, but include plenty of excerpts. 4) You do not have to cast people in roles that match their personalities - in fact, the opposite would be desireable. to a reasonable degree (a few characters in roles that are drastically different from their personality is good, just don't cast everyone like that). |

Other Stuff | ||||||||||||||||
1) Submit as many fics as you want, though I would be surprised if anyone submitted more than one, since these will probably tend to be long. Please do not submit them on the mailing list!!! Send all entries to the address at the bottom of this page and lable them: [SC Entry] 2) Please have your fics beta'd before entering them; spelling and grammer will be a big part of the score. 3) On the spelling of the characters' names: "Clapika", "Hysoka", and "Leolio" cause me to become quite violent. I dislike "Quoll", though from what I understand it might actually be the correct spelling. I don't see a significant difference between "Kurapica" and "Kurapika", or between "Irumi" and "Illumi". 4) As for genres...it'll depend on what I get - it won't really make sense to have genres if I only get a few fics. 5) Content, pairings, and ratings don't matter to me. 6) Any suggestions, comments, questions, or tomatoes should be sent to the address below marked [SC Comments]. |
