"I got two A's," the small boy cried.
His voice was filled with glee.
His father very bluntly asked,
"Why didn't you get three?"
"Mom, I've got the dishes done,"
The girl called from the door.
Her mother very calmly said,
"Did you sweep the floor?"
"I've mowed the grass," the tall boy said,
"And put the mower away."

Thought of the Month

Children who are not taught to love themselves and who don’t experience
the acceptance, tolerance, mercy, and forgiveness of love can tease and
reject one another. Children who receive that criticism have a powerful
healing to experience. They must learn about forgiveness and the mercy of love.
Few children are taught how to do this. Instead they take on
the criticism and rejection as evidence that something is wrong with them.
The whole issue, across the board, no matter who you are, is
a lack of love. We teach our kids to love their parents.
We teach them to love the other members of their family.
We teach them to love things. What we tend not to do
is teach them to love themselves, or to love people.
We try to teach them what is and is not nice to do, but we
don’t get to the core, the core that teaches a love
that is grounded in Spirit.
Because we live in a society that gives us a view of perfection, anything that doesn’t
match that view of perfection, we must reject. As children, we learn that very early.
Children are not taught that the true meaning of love is at the core.
That the true essence of love is the intangible connection of the soul.
We teach our children to read the Bible verses and to memorize the books in the Bible.
We teach them what to say, how to say it, and when to say everything
that will give the world the impression that they are being properly raised.
What we are not teaching our children are the principles. We are not teaching them the activity of love.
They hear us talking, and when we talk, we criticize, we judge,
and we are intolerant, unaccepting, and unmerciful because we,
the adults, don’t remember the truth about love.
