We had a wonderful time sharing this special Quatro de Mayo day of
family, friends, celebration and the sharing of refreshing drinks and hearty eats
with you.
Right away, Pat
and Leslie
welcomed us and made us feel comfortable among what seemed at first to be a sea
of strangers. Soon, it became apparent that we had met a number of them
before as Bob's and Linda's houseguests, up at the red log cabin in Big
Bear. The tasty hors
d'oeuvres, the frosty margaritas, and the silky smooth Côte Perrin wine from France
were superb social lubricants, as we all eagerly awaited the Birthday Girl's
arrival. Those we didn't know were friendly and warm and soon became
friends.
Congratulations!
You pulled it off perfectly.
Linda was genuinely
SURPRISED!
Her birthday is not until June 1st,
and with Mother's Day next Sunday,
Linda had no suspicions.
Linda and Bob
She was not dressed in a bathrobe,
as she was at her last surprise birthday
Andy's and
Jodi's house is simply
gorgeous, and they were a gracious host and hostess pair.
Theirs is the perfect party house, complete with pool, outdoor bar (with a bartender who taught me how to make margaritas
-- watch
out!), and lots of room for a
tented dance floor and tables and chairs to sprawl across the lush, green lawn.
Also, the TV in the family
room was very much appreciated, as we were able to watch two of the four games
that catapulted the
University of Hawai`i
to its first national title:
The NCAA Volleyball Championship!!!
Thanks
to Anne's son-in-law Paul,
Michelle's hubby and an avid volleyball fan,
we watched history in the making
which was significant to us.
UH is, after all, an underfunded state university going against a heavily-monied
Pepperdine machine --
a David against Goliath.
Go UH Warriors!
Our thanks to the
basketball fans who graciously indulged us. Your playoffs were as
important to you as the championship game was to us, and you shared without too
much of a fuss... btw, who played in the playoffs? The Quatro de Mayo Fiesta dinner was
wonderfully scrumptious and filling with refried beans, Spanish rice, shredded beef and pork,
chicken tostitos, fresh salad, fruit, tortilla chips, and mounds of guacamole, a
huge bowl of salsa, and lots of fixins'.
We
loved meeting all of you in one place, at one time. We think
we finally have you, the California kids and the grandkids,
straight. There's Leslie and Pat with Megan and
Katie and Andy and Jodi with Taryn, Marjorie and
"Bun-in-the-Oven." One day, we'll meet the Maui bunch. Our
special treats were seeing our former but never forgotten neighbors Anne
(of Anne and Red fame and Pat's Mom) and Tom and
Maria
and their
family from that cabin. Thank you for that
most special
reunion. Most of all,
we shall never forget
the adoring look of love
in Bob's eyes
as Linda was being honored.
Sweet.
What
a pair:
Dorian Grey and Doriana Grey.
They make 60 look awfully sexy You
are a terrific family.
You have the spirit of `ohana.
You guys go all out.
As we say in Hawai`i:
We hope you like our little pû`olo,
a little something, which is this website:
Me ka Mahalo
a me ke Aloha,
