Accident Potential Zone Map |
We are a group of residents from Emerald Isle, Swansboro, Cape Carteret, Bogue and Morehead City that have concerns about safety issues of the Harrier, noise, quality of life and accident potential zones. This group is not anti-military or anti-Marine Corps. We would appreciate it if you would take the time to read through this site to get a better understanding of what our concerns are. Please keep in mind that the information published here is information that we have received from the USMC, the Department of Defense, the Naval Safety Center and the General Accounting Office. The facts and figures that we have are not our own and have not been fabricated in any way by our group. They are the facts and figures that we have gathered from the above listed groups. E-mail for a more complete package of our material or to sign up to be put on our mailing list. |

These two photos of Harriers were taken on 6-5-01 by one of our committee members in his backyard. They were taken with a digital camera, not a fancy telephoto lense camera. We ask you - Does this look like 1000 feet. By the way, the decibel reading was 110 and 114. |
The harrier photo below was taken with a digital camera from my porch. It could not have been more than 200 - 300 feet. There's no doubt you could have hit it with a BB gun. The db reading flashed when it hit 120 - that's as high as my sound meter reads. |
