Avoyelles roots in New Orleans


Several Avoyelles French families were from New Orleans and include:


Barbin Two of the Barbin male ancestors, the original immigrant and his son, each were in charge of provisions for the King in the new colony of Louisiana, and were in the Balize area.

Bordelon 1730-30s - Gabriel Laurent BORDELON, native of Lehavre, France and his wife Anne Francoise ROLAND married at St. Louis on 20 Feb 1730 in New Orleans, LA. Children included: Antoine BORDELON, born 1733 in New Orleans, Nicolas BORDELON.

Carmouche The Carmouche family had a plantation facing what is now Lake Ponchartrain.

DeCuir The DeCuir family stayed a short time about 1721-22 at the St. Reyne Concession, at what is now Tchoupotlulas on the Mississippi River upstream of the city. Following this the family may have gone for a short period to Ouachita, but for sure finally settled at what is now Pointe Coupee by 1726. DeCuir's daughter married at St. Louis Cathedral to Valentine Duablin, a tailor of early New Orleans.

Lemoine . 1727 (July 1) census lists Guilluame Lemoine and wife on Royal Street between the families of Mondaun and L Riveiere
. 1732(Jan.) census lists Lemoine, a carpenter with wife and 3 children on Chartres Street, between the Dubreuil and Blanpin Homes

Saucier . 1732 (Jan.) census lists Saucier, Drafstman, and Broutin, Engineer, as working for the King (of France) , liste "on the Quai"
