Grandpa and Grandma Lavergne's 50th Wedding Anniversary.
(They are pictured here with their daughter, four of their sons, and four daughters-in-law. My thanks to Betty for sharing the photo)

Before I begin my dad's family tree, I would like to make a few comments.  As I state throughout my website, I am an adopted child. Unfortunately for mom, she suffered severe problems with reproduction.  She relates that she became pregnant once but miscarried.  They chose to adopt through Catholic Services.  First came Marie Antoinette in January 1952, who was two days old.  She was beautiful; and quite ironically, my oldest twin daughter shares a big resemblance to her (in baby pictures).  Antoinette passed away at the age of 10 months from what my dad related as "cancer of the blood" (leukemia) as well as complications from spinal meningitis.  In November of 1956, they adopted yet another girl -- me, who was three months old.  In October of 1959, they adopted a six month old boy, Paul Anthony.

Being adopted never bothered me.  MOF, I cherish that I was given a chance at life and given to two people who wanted me :-)  However, it does mean that my father's blood line stops with himself.  Although I am not a "blood Lavergne", I **am** a Lavergne legally, as well as in my heart and soul which, in my humble but honest opinion, is MOST important :-)  Betty jokes with me as we talk about this and says "That's right!  You are a Lavergne cause we decided to let you!" *lol*  I am proud to have been given to my beautiful parents, Ellen and Joe, and such a great family  :-)

My Lavergne grandparents (Louis Lavergne, Sr. and Cora Guidry) had five sons and one daughter -- Forest, Floyd, Rufus, Lawrence, Louis, Jr., and Gladys.  Uncle Forest and his wife, Melanie Terro, lived in Groves, Texas.  They had three sons and two daughters -- F.T. (aka Blackie), Carroll (aka Sonny), Curney (aka Brother), Belle, and Audrey.  Aunt Gladys and her husband, John Istre, lived in Mermentau; and they had two sons -- John, Jr. (aka "June"), and George.  Uncle Floyd and his wife, Bernice Quebodeaux, lived in Sulphur, LA.  They had three sons and two daughters -- Ray, Darius, Ralay, Betty, and Ethel. &nnbsp;Uncle Rufus and his first wife, Dulci Clement, had one son, Leon. He and his second wife, Juanita LeJeune, lived in Big Lake, LA.  They had three sons and one daughter -- Alan, Gary, Dean, and Carolyn.  Then comes my dad (Lawrence -- aka "Sponk" or Joe) and his wife (mom -- Mary Ellen Vincent) who lived in Sulphur, LA. They adopted two girls and one boy -- Antoinette, Charlene, and Paul.  Last but not least, Uncle "June" (Louis Lavergne, Jr., aka Pete) and his wife, Mary (Marie) Thibodeaux, lived here in Sulphur and then in Lake Charles.  They adopted one son -- Louis Steven.

My dad and his siblings have all left this world and are now in heaven with grandma and grandpa!

There were 21 of us grandchildren total, four of whom have passed on (Antoinette, John, Jr., Carroll, and Leon).  Belle is the oldest while Steven is the youngest.

The information compiled below was researched by my wonderful first cousin, Betty Lavergne Whetnall (who is more like my older sister cause she lived with my parents -- I love this story!  She wanted to live with her Nanny and her Paran; and that she did.  My parents raised her from early on till she graduated high school and got married!). Thank you, Betty, for all the hard work you have done!!!!! Yall visit her new site!
