A few comments from visitors!

I have received tons of comments regarding this page, but I never thought about posting them till now. I don't know why, cause everyone was in praise, but I am going to from now on. It has been truly interesting to hear from so many different people with their comments. Anyway, here are two recent letters I received (I *really* love the one dated 2/17):

Tuesday, February 17, 2004 10:07 PM: Char, I am from Opelousas, and proud to so. Regarding your page about being a coonass, I was in the army many years ago,and had a sargent who looked with distain upon any one not from Tenn. He used the term coonass in a very negitive way when addressing me. When I had enough of this, I asked him"Sarge, there are three kinds of asses in this world, a Jackass, a Horses Ass and a Coonass. I'm a Coonass. Which one are YOU?". Needless to say I was not his favorite person after that. It might have helped if I had not said this in front of other people. It was just too much to take. I never had a bad thought about that man until that day. Thankfully he was reasigned shortly after that. I live in texas now but I'm still Proud of what I am.

Monday, February 16, 2004 12:30 PM: I read your page about the word 'coonass' with interest. I havent lived in La. since I left at the age of 21 to see the world. I have staked a claim up here in Washington state and have learned that people can be very ignorant, but that hasnt stopped them from expressing their opinion about something they know nothing about. We have a friend who is an entertainer in some of the local establishments, plays live music and banters with the crowd, and he is originally from La. He played at a restaurant here known for its La cuisine, and knowing I was in the crowd, asked if there were any other 'coonasses' in the crowd. Of course I answered, but someone shouted that this was an offensive derrogatory term he was using, and as he tried to gracefully and humourously extract himself from the offense, he explained that it is a term of endearment that those of us from Louisiana claim.
