About this Web Site
The purpose of this website is to serve as a resource, clearing house and
on-line family reunion for the descendants of William ("Billy") Johnson
and Isabelle Corporon. This site will focus primarily, but not exclusively on the
Louisiana branch of the family, as plans are in the works for an official website
for the Acadian Johnson Association, which brings us together with our Canadian cousins.
The
authors of this website are descendants of Joseph JEANSONNE, son of Charles Jeansonne,
Jr.. Nonetheless, we are researching ALL Jeansonne lines. The ultimate aim is to
produce a giant, omnibus Jeansonne/Johnson GEDCOM, tracing as many descendants as
possible of the Franco-Scottish couple in long-ago Acadia who founded this line.
Please
note: we are not doing a Johnson single-surname study, nor are we researching
Johnsons that do not come from the Jeansonne/Johnson line. If you are
just generally looking for information on Johnsons, go to our LINKS
page, for links to two excellent web sites dealing with all Johnsons. If you have
Johnsons from Central or Southern/Southwestern Lousiana and think you might tie into
our line, go to our QUERY
page and post a query -- somebody out there might have the missing clue you seek.
Future Plans:
In the next few weeks and months, we will be revising and expanding the site,
to include as much background as possible on this family. Plans include converting
the Jeansonne/ Johnson GEDCOM (computerized genealogy chart) via the GED2HTML program
so that it can be viewed on line, and a link to our FTP site so that the GEDCOM can
be downloaded. In addition, we plan to provide a digital photo gallery of photos
and documents relating to our Jeansonne/ Johnson ancestors, and sections for sharing
Johnson/Jeansonne family recipes, memories and stories, from the distant past to
our parents' generation.
We are also exploring the possibilty of having
a Johnson/Jeansonne e-mail discussion group. If you'd be interested, let us know
when you sign our guestbook.
Other possibilities for the future include music files (if you play an instrument,
send us a "sound bite"!!), video clips from family reunions, and, of course,
a French language version of the site. (hats off to Codofil
for keeping the heritage alive!!) (Council for the Development of French
in Louisiana. Click here for contact tel. nos.for Codofil
Officials.)
In Canada and New England, the name is most commonly spelled "Johnson"
with some variations as "Jeanson" and "Jeansonne." The common
Louisiana usage was "Jeansonne", although the French and English spellings
often were both used. (My own branch of the family switched to Johnson after moving
to an English-speaking area of Rapides Parish after the War Between the States.)
Further information will soon be posted on this page regarding the Canadian
and New England branches of the family, and "La Societe Acadienne de la Famille
Johnson", its 1996 reunion on the Gaspe Peninsula, and the plans for the 1999
reunion in Louisiana, which will be held around the time of the World
Acadian Congress. This site will also link to the Acadian Johnson Association
homepage, which is now in development. At this time, we also hope to be able to expand
the GEDCOM files to include these branches, and data is already being inputted.
If you are a JEANSONNE, or are a Louisiana
JOHNSON
from this line, or a Canadian or New England Johnson,
or any variation on the above, we want to hear from you!!
Please e-mail
the webmasters. Let's exchange data!!
