Enrique JONSEN

My grandmother's family were Johnsons who migrated from Louisiana in mid 1850's to East Texas. Enrique Jonsen of Carolina a Presbyterian, son of Joseph Jonsen and Raquel Arentin and Marie Constance Quinteras, daughter of Manuel Quinterasand Marie Granger were lawfully married on the 21 day of August 1796 by Rev. Pedro de Zamora in the presence of John Moore, Jacob Welsh, Isaac Johnston St. Landry Catholic Church Opelousas, Louisiana. More information available Webmasters' note: Lots of Acadians were deported to South Carolina, and it sounds like Enrique could be "one of ours". As he was a Presbyterian, it looks as if his father, Joseph Jonsen (Johnson?) could have been an Acadian deportee and his mother, Raquel Arentin, a French Hugenot. As there were numerous Hugenots in SC and this was the only local French population, the Acadians intermarried with this community.)

Joseph Jeansonne or Johnson/A Fuselier in the June 8, 1777 Opelousas Militia Roll. In the Opelousas General Census of 1777, he was a bachelor, age 29 years. (Webmaster's note: If this is the same Joseph Johnson cited as father of Enrique Jonsen, then he is definitely "ours") He died on the 16 of October 1806 at the age of 55 years. David Jeansonne, son of Isaac Jeansonne and Marie Quinteros, was born in Opelousas, LA on the 30 day of June 1798, was baptized on the 5th day November 1798. St. Landry Catholic Church, Opelousas, LA, by Father Pedro de Zamora, witnesses: V. Planta and Celeste Lejeune. Marie Constance Quinteros, 2 Dec 1774, at Coupee Post, LA Territory, was the daughter of Sgt. Manuel Quinteros, born ca 1740 in Spain, and Marie Granger, born in Acadia, Canada ca 1750. Marie Granger was the daughter of Euphazine Gautreaux and Antoine Quinteros. My grandmother was the granddaughter of David Johnston/Johnson.Doris Harkness P. O. My name is Virginia Broussard. My g-grandmother was Rosa Pearl JOHNSON m.Joshua Johnson DOZIER of Eldorado Arkansas. I don't know if this Johnson line is the same as yours, but the only info I have is that her parents were John Johnson and Ellie Cooper. I don't know if they were originally from La. or if they were from Arkansas. If anyone has any info to shed some light on these Johnsons from North Louisiana/Arkansas, you can e-mail me at VirgWeld@aol.com

SADDLER JOHNSON, St. Landry Parish, mid 19th c.

Webmasters' Note: This family does not look like it is necessarily our Johnson branch, as the first names sound a little "Anglo" for the period, and apparently came from KY/TN/NC according to the researcher. However, the family in question was living in St. Landry Parish and Vernon Parish and the Glenmora area by the mid 1800's and could therefore be ours. Also, for those who are fellow descendants of Joseph Gilbert Johnson, Jr. and Admonia Malisse Mathews, note that there are two different intermarriages with PERKINS family members. (Admonia's mother was a Perkins)
