Jamie grew up in Red Deer, Alberta. At a very young age, she was introduced to the world of "ice". Her father introduced Jamie and her brother Jay, to skating early in their lives. Often on week nights and weekends, you could find Jamie practising away on her own little natural rink. Although she started on double blades, she soon progressed to single blades, and from there she never looked back. However, Jamie encountered a serious set back at age 10. Her mother, Patti and father Gene decided to get a divorce. Her mother agreed to take Jamie, while her father took on Jay. Jamie says this closeness with her mother created a bond that has stayed true through the many trials and tribulations of life. For the first few years Jamie skated out of a rink in Red Deer. But, like many other serious athletes, Jamie soon realized that she could go no further skating out of Red Deer and being coached by Debbie Wilson. So after a bitter parting, the club in Red Deer paid for Jamie to move up in the ranks of the skating world, and join the prestigious Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton, Alberta. For Jamie, this not only meant a whole new bunch of skaters and coachs to get used to, but it also meant an entire move for herself and her mother Patti Seigal. |

Once in Edmonton, Jamie adapted quickly to her new life, and found a partner named Jason Turner. As a team they went on to win 1992 Jr. Worlds. After this accomplishment, they moved into the world of seniors. Although the 1993 season was not as successful as they first wished, they rebounded in 1994. Not only did Jamie place third in her Jr. singles event, but her and Turner went on to place third after the long program at the Canadian Nationals. This placing got them the chance to represent Canada at the 1994 Olympic games in Lillehammer, Norway. Both partners went to Lillehammer knowing they were there for a learning experience, but with a very small chance to medal. They had a few mistakes, and ended up finishing 12th. They went onto Worlds that year, however, and continued to be faced by reoccuring problems. They finished a dismal 16th. Soon after Worlds, Jamie realized that she could go no further with Jason, and the decision was made that summer to end the partnership. |

Since she could not find the proper partner at the time, (she says she was waiting on Pelletier) Jamie decided to give singles a try. Although she was wasn't very successful with singles, Jamie learned many lessons, and struggled her way back up to the Canadian National tournament in 1998, after not qualifying for the past two years. In the spring of 1998, Jamie had a second try-out with Pelletier, and it worked. Jamie says that although things didn't work out for the best after the first try-out, the second time the two tried out, "It was like the signature on the contract". Jamie had finally found her true parter, on and off the ice, Although it took a while to come together, Jamie and David now live together happily in Edmonton, Alberta. Jamie's bubbly personality shines through in almost every aspect of her life, making her a fun person to be around. Although she says her worst trait is her stubborness, it is that mannerism that got her to the top of the world. Jamie knows what she wants in life, and as long as she sees fit, there is nothing that will stop her. The sky is truely the limit for this wonderful Canadian. -About Jamie and David- -Home- NOTE: This was written by Kim! :) |
