"Logan. You know? Only the guy you're so in love with and drool over, it makes me sick."

"I..I don't.." Max started, but simply couldn't comprehend why she couldn't remember who he was.

"Eyes only."

The name still didn't register.

"Funny looking, guy. Sits at his computer a lot."

Max only looked at Alec more confused. Fear and panic washed over her, as she watched Alec grow more concerned, but then a wry smile crossed his lips. "Max, is this a little game? Because I'm not getting it."

"A game?"

"Ya, like some sort of joke to get back at me for getting you into this mess to begin with."

"What mess?"

"Maybe you better sit down for this," he said, wiping the dust off his faded jeans. "Here, take my hand I'll help you get onto the counter."

"Does it look like I need your help?" Max drawled, while she stood swaying, holding a tight grip onto the counter.

"No, not at all." Alec muffled his laughter.

Max took a few steps forward, bracing herself on the counter, she tried to pull herself up so she could sit. Her legs gave out on her and before she knew it, she was heading towards the floor. She closed her eyes, readying herself for the onslaught of pain. Instead, she found herself safely resting in Alec's strong arms.

"I got ya," he whispered softly against her ear, and for some reason, she felt chills pass through her body.

"Thanks," she said, reluctantly. She hated people having to do things for her. She was more capable than most able bodied males and yet, for some reason she felt so weak. Yet as she looked back and caught Alec's eye, she felt comfortable. Not relaxed, but comfortable. As if, touching him seemed normal, almost right.

Alec picked her up by her hips and gently released her on the counter top. He too, noticed how she leaned into him, she didn't pull away as she had in the past. A part of him was worried, for her, for what would happen to them once the cure kicked in, and for why she seemed so weak. Almost disoriented, Max scanned the room, letting her eyes settle back on Alec. "I could have done that myself you know."

"Riiiight! Look, Max, you're pretty weak, just sit there and let yourself off the hook for once."

Perhaps Logan and Max were meant to be, but somehow he doubted that. It didn't seem right that nothing ever went their way, like it was fate trying to tell them something.

Alec was Max's perfect match, they were made for each other, if only Alec could get Max to see it too, then things would start to go his way.

"What happened anyway?"

Alec couldn't even begin to explain, because Logan walked in, holding some ice for Max. He handed it to her careful not to touch her skin. Max put the ice against her forehead and flinched slightly at the pain.

"Who are you?" Max asked, quietly, feeling as though she should know him.

"Funny Max."

"She's not kidding, man! I think she has amnesia or something."

"Alec, I'm right here. Don't talk about me as if I'm a child."

Alec looked back at her, but continued to ignore her, and focus on Logan.

"If she has amnesia, how come she remembers you?" Logan spit out, snidely.

"Maybe it's selective," he countered with a cocky grin.

"Maybe it's from all that water she took in?"

"Water?" Max asked, her eyes growing big, waiting for an explanation.

"Yeah, the genius over here, dropped the cure and you went in after it."

Max looked at him, her dark eyes wrought with confusion.

"Don't worry though, we got it back and it should start to work soon."

"What is it a cure for?"

"For us. Max, you remember, the virus. We couldn't touch each other or I'd die, but it's all over, no thanks to the boy wonder over here," Logan said, indicating Alec.

"Oh really? Then who was the one that pulled her out of the water and saved her life? Was it you?" Alec asked sardonically, not waiting for an answer, "I didn't think so."

"You saved me?" Max said, more as a statement to herself, than a question.

"Max, you seriously don't remember?" Logan asked her, fidgeting with his glasses on his face.

"No," she said, shaking her head, looking down at the floor.

"Hey, hey. It's going to be okay."

"Ya Max, at least you remember me," Alec teased.

"Oh great, a consolation prize."

"See that's the spirit. Maybe later I'll tie a ribbon around myself and you can open me up. Sound good?"

"Shut up! This isn't the time to joke," Logan, spat.

"Oh I dunno, it depends on what colour ribbon."

"Don't encourage him."

"Relax, Logan. It's okay to laugh, every once in a while," Alec said, rolling his eyes.

Logan just stared past Alec. He picked up his phone and made a call.

Alec walked back over to Max and leaned against the counter. "The guy has no sense of humour," he vented.

"Okay, I just got off the phone, we'll need to take a blood sample and run it to the lab."

"You can't take my blood," Max growled, attempting to stand.

"It's okay, I have a friend who is a nurse and she'll be discreet. We won't let anyone know what you are. It might be a side effect of the cure or it could be something else, we need to make sure."

"How long do you think it'll last?" Alec grunted.

Logan turned his back on them, "It could last just a few hours, or days or...it may be permanent."
