This is an antique fresnel lens which was liberated from the French-built lighthouse on Isla Grande when the station was converted in 1972 from acetylene gas to automated battery operation. The lantern is approximately 6 ft high and 3 feet in diameter, mounted on a metal display base. The name plate affixed to the lantern reads as follows: "F. Barbier & Cia. Constructors, Paris, France, 1893. It was originally constructed to operate with oil and dates back to the French effort to build the Canal. Presently, it is part of the lighthouse display at the Interoceanic Canal Museum in Panama City.
