Roger

I have been a Purple Angel since
June 11, 2002. I am also the only Male Angel

Hi, I'm Roger.  I'm a half-century old, turning 50 this past May.  I live alone except for my two cats.  I've loved animals for as long as I can remember...that was one of my mother's gifts to me.  I've always seemed to prefer dogs and had a wonderful collie named Danny in the 70's and 80's but circumstances have seen to it that I now own (or am owned by) a pair of furry felines.  I got my first cat in March of 2001.  His name is Shadow and he is a silver and black Maine Coon...lots of hair and boy does he shed but I wear my cat proudly.  He likes nothing better than to lay near me but when I see him there, I just have to pick him up.  I got Shadow through a breeder but my other cat was a rescue.  Her name is
Cinderella though everyone just calls her Cindy.  She's a typical black & white "tuxedo cat" but what she lacks in pedigree, she more than makes up for in personality.  In short, she's a curious, nosy, stinker of a cat but I love her for it.  I hope both are around for a good many years...and I wouldn't be surprised if my feline family increases in number eventually.

I work in a steel mill here in my home state of West Virginia where I've lived my entire life (well...not yet!).  It's not perfect here but it's home and I enjoy the variety of the weather...no boring all-summer weather year round like I might get if I moved to Southern California or Texas or some such place.

My interests include photography (Shadow and Cindy are,
of course, my favorite models), movies, music and books.  Most of what I tend to read are works of nonfiction...books about the movies and the old
west, especially, but I also enjoy some fiction with my favorite current author being Larry McMurtry.  I also enjoy classic books and have works by such authors as Mark Twain, Herman Melville, Louisa May Alcott, H.G. Wells
and Jules Verne.  Because I spend so much time reading and the fact I watch very little TV (apart from my own video collection) I recently decided to cancel my TV cable subscription.  So far, I don't miss it.

Of course, I also enjoy the internet and frequent various kinds of
sites...e-mail lists, message boards, fantasy baseball sites, etc.

In real life, I'm a bit of a loner...partly by choice and partly because my friends (such as they are) seem to have made themselves scarce...especially since the fall of 2000 when my best friend passed away.  We had one gathering but I've scarcely heard from them since.  The loneliness that followed was one reason I got Shadow, my first cat.  I needed a little companionship and getting him was one of the best
decisions I ever made.  He certainly hasn't replaced my late friend but has certainly opened up a new chapter in my life.

Another thing I do is keep a journal...I've had one now for something like 6 years and it's interesting to go back and reflect on my life over the last several years.  While my "real" friends seem to have made themselves scarce the last few years, I have more online friends than ever before so I really don't think
I have anything to complain about.
