I am a first generation Irish- American, born in the Bronx NY. I served in USMC during the Korean War. I am a retired police polygraph examiner and am the immediate past Chairman of the Mairead Farrell, Central Virginia Unit of Irish Northern Aid.

BALLAD OF MAIREAD FARRELL
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there I do not sleep,
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
When Ireland lives I do not die.

A woman's place is not at home,
The fight for freedom it still goes on,
I took up my gun until freedoms day,
I pledged to fight for the I.R.A.

In Armagh jail I served my time,
Strip searches were a British crime,
Degraded me but they could not see,
I'd suffer this to see Ireland free.

Gibraltar was the place I died,
McCann and Savage were by my side,
I heard the order so loud and shrill,
Of Thatchers voice, said shoot to kill.

I live in Hanover Va. with my wife Viola and our Shi-tzu puppy Mabh. My hobbies are saltwater fishing and gourmet cooking.

I regret to report that my lovely wife, Viola, the love of my life, my soul mate, my lover, my companion and my friend sucumbed to cancer and left me a very sorowful man on 31 January 2003. I had almost 35 wonderful years with her and am grateful for that. We had both agreed to be cremated and I scttered her ashes around a smoke tree that we planted together just before our trip to Ireland in 1997. Here is a picture. Our children will put my ashes there also when my time comes.

I am dedicated to ending British rule in Ireland and the restoration of the 32 county Republic that was proclaimed at Easter 1916, created by the first Dail in 1918 and overthrown by the force of arms in 1922 and surpressed to this day by the British imposed 6 county, 26 county partition states.

The Irish Northern Aid Committee is an American-based humanitarian organization formed in 1970 to alleviate the suffering of the dependents of Irish Political Prisoners. Today the families of political prisoners in Ireland, Britain and the United States rely on our all-volunteer fundraising conducted across the U.S. on behalf of the charitable trusts An Cumann Cabhrach in Dublin and Green Cross in Belfast. Irish Northern Aid is also an activist organization that campaigns for the Human and Civil Rights of the residents in the North of Ireland, works to end British occupation and the partition of Ireland, and disseminates information and news regarding events in Ireland. INA units are based throughout the country and membership is open to men and women of all races, religions and nationalities. Units work with other Irish American organizations, Labor, universities and concerned individuals to promote the welfare of Irish political prisoners and lobby for Justice in the north of Ireland. At-large members throughout the country also play a major role through political and media activities, with information and support from INA's National Office and The Irish People newspaper. The Irish Northern Aid Committee works to raise awareness of the nature of British misrule in Ireland by highlighting the colonial and sectarian nature of partition, the abuses of the Human Rights of the residents of the six counties, the right of the Irish people to national self-determination, and the British military, economic and political occupation that is at the root of the ongoing conflict in Ireland. Irish Northern Aid is the voice in America for the ordinary people of the occupied six counties of Ireland who might not otherwise be heard. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Objectives Irish Northern Aid is an American based non-profit organization formed to alleviate the suffering of the dependents of Irish political prisoners through An Cumann Cabhrach in Dublin and affiliates such as Green Cross in Belfast. Irish Northern Aid will highlight the colonial and sectarian nature of partition and the British occupation of Ireland as the inevitable reason for the present War of National Liberation. Irish Northern Aid seeks support for a free and independent, thirty-two county Irish republic, governed in accordance with the Proclamation of the Irish Republic issued on Easter, 1916. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Statement of Principles Irish Northern Aid is an American-based, humanitarian organization which together with An Cumann Cabhrach and Green Cross gives support to families of political prisoners and to prisoners' welfare. All monies raised by Irish Northern Aid are distributed in weekly support payments. The amount is determined in accordance with the needs of each family. Irish Northern Aid undertakes this activity recognizing that these prisoners are the most extreme victims of British occupation in Ireland. Irish Northern Aid promotes an American awareness of the nature of British rule in Ireland. The British hold the six counties in order to exploit Ireland as a colony. British rule is sustained by economic, political and social privilege conferred on one segment of Irish people in order to artificially divide them from fellow Irish people from their natural aspiration for an independent Irish nation.
