To avoid carpal tunnel syndrome, I've finally gotten the Co-op City FAQ page together. This is a work in progress so more information will be added.
This site is not affiliated with or an agent of Riverbay Corporation. If you are looking for sales, pricing, or availability information, you must contact the Riverbay Sales Office.

"I have a car. How's the parking?"
We have a total of eight garages, with six parking levels each. Residents can obtain a parking sticker and access card to park in their assigned garage for a monthly fee. The garages have security gates and are manned by parking attendants 24 hrs. a day. They are also patrolled by our private Security force.
And there's always free parking available on the local streets.

"Is there shopping nearby?"
There are three Shopping/Community centers right on the premises. Located at Dreiser Loop, Bartow Ave. and Einstein Loop. They contain supermarkets, restaurants, salons etc.
The Community Centers are used for club meetings, special events (concerts, plays, etc.), and hall rentals for residents.
Bay Plaza is located just outside of Co-op City between I 95, the Hutchinson River Pkwy, and Bartow Ave. It's one of the shopping destinations in the Bronx. It contains major chains like: Kmart, Old Navy, Staples, Pathmark, J.C.Penney, and Barnes and Noble.
On the opposite side of Co-op City is the Peartree Mall with it's own major supermarket, video store etc. So, yes! There's tons of shopping, all within a short walk from home.

"How does Co-op City keep its rates so low and not lose money?"
Co-op City benefits from the Mitchell-Lama Housing Program. Click the link for more information. This New York State program was designed with the purpose of providing affordable housing for middle-income households. Due to the nature of the program, there are income requirements/limitations for residents.

"Who or What is Riverbay Corp.?"
Co-op City is managed by Riverbay Corporation. Because Co-op City is a Mitchell-Lama cooperative, each resident is a shareholder in the Riverbay Corporation. Shareholders get to elect fellow residents to the Riverbay Board of Directors . Click the link for a listing of the current Riverbay Board of Directors and Committee heads.
The Board supervises the corporation's general business affairs and appoints entities, such as Marion Scott Real Estate, Inc., to run the day-to-day operation of various departments.

"What is Co-op City's Population and/or Demographic information?"
The best I can do for now is provide a link to 2000 Census Data of the 10475 zip code area. This area includes neighborhoods outside of Co-op City proper.
According to the USPS Bronx Zip Code Map, 10475 is bordered by the Hutchinson River Parkway to the east, Bassett Ave. to the south-east, the Bronx County border to the north, Boston Rd. and Baychester Ave. to the west.
If you want to view additional data and maps from the 10475 zip code area, visit the US Census Bureau's U.S. Gazetteer.
When I obtain statistical information within the boundaries of Co-op City itself, I will list it here.

I'll be adding more to this page as the need arises and as I accumulate more information.
If you have any questions that are not covered here (except for sales related questions of course...), visit the Co-op City Message Board.
