Hot Seat Interview |
|||||
Where are you from? Liverpool Age? (very optional!!!) 27 Earliest memory? Were probably my summer holidays as a kid. I remember being trekked up mountains in the Scottish Highlands from the age of about 5 by my parents. We used to go on these very active holidays, hikes, bikes, the lot. We didn't have a car so the six of us had to spend about 12 hours on 3 trains in order to get up there, carting our bikes across various station platforms. And once we were there we got no rest! Favourite place? Anfield if I'm being shallow. If I'm not, then Ghana, where I used to work as a teacher. Favourite music? All the old stuff...predictably I'm a Beatles fan. Had it blasting out around the house from an early age! Any special qualifications/achievements that you're proud of? Spent time working as a teacher in an African village, before I went into broadcasting. Was tough but character building and probably the best thing I've ever done! First job? A greengrocer! For about £2 an hour! Best job? So far...the one I have now. Dream job? To do what I do now but somewhere hotter How did you get started in doing what you do? After my first degree I got some work with Liverpool Live TV and also Radio Merseyside and spent some time there commentating on Women's' Football. Then I did a post-graduate course, worked again for Radio Merseyside and then got a job with Yorkshire TV. How long ago? Have been at Yorkshire TV for 3 years. Where would you have been seen or heard since you started broadcasting? Radio Merseyside and Calendar. Best on-air moment? Doing a live from Istanbul the morning after Liverpool had won the European Cup. I could hardly speak and probably bored the Yorkshire audiences to death, but I enjoyed it! Worst on-air moment (embarrassing or otherwise)? Reading the news with green cellotape hanging from my ear...it had been holding my earpiece in but collapsed half way through a story and I had to leave it there. Any ambitions left? Plenty! Biggest influence in your life? My parents. Best advice that you've been given and why? Never hold a grudge against anyone (from my brother) - wastes too much time and energy Any hobbies or special interests? Go to watch Liverpool most weekends. My other main love is going on long holidays. Would love to go back to Africa. Any advice for those who want to get started in broadcasting? Be prepared to work for free for a bit.
