At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, 1918, the guns fell silent on the Western Front in France and Belgium, ending the four years of hositilities of World War I. That became known as Armsitice Day. Today we know it as Veterans' Day..a day we pause and remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep us free. Please, on that hour and that day, take a moment to remember and keep a moment of silence in their honor. |
In Flanders Fields |
IIn Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe; To you, from failing hands, we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. |
