                         Here is what you should install to have your PC running at his best with Windows XP.

                         1- Format or not format ? 

                                       You can optimize your PC without formatting the harddisk once a while if you work with

                             the same 2 or 3 big software all the times. But if you have more than 3 big software , it is better

                             to clean it of all the indesired .dll files that are in your Windows/system32 repertory, that will slow it.

                             At each formatting you can choose only the software that you need. As an example I only install

                             the CD recording software "Easy CD Creator" when I have CDs to "burn". Without it, my XP is lighter.

                         2-Formatting:

                                      - You have a recovery CD with a formattiing option, choose the NTFS file system, it is the fastest for now.

                                        If you have a Windows XP CD, do the same, choose the NTFS file system.

                         3-Installing:

                                                  1- Network (right click "My Computer", Properties, Hardware Tab, Device Manager

                                                                       dbl click the name of the peripherial, in his section, Driver Tab, Update Driver.

                                                                      If you don't have the driver let it search (Install the software automatically)

                                                                      If you have it (Install from a list, Browse)

                                                                                 Nota: It is "easy" to find any peripherial driver by typing it's full name

                                                                                           plus "driver download" in Google.

                                                  2- Graphic Card

                                                  3- Sound Card

                                                  4- Direct-X 9c   If you click the Download button you will have the Web install version. (file: 10k)

                                                                             If you want keep the full installation file (34 mgs), click Cancel at the download

                                                                             windows and go to the bottom of the page get "Direct X 9c Redist".

                                                  5- Any TV card.

                                                  6- Video Codecs    Windows Media Player 10 will install most of them.

                                                                                    DivX Play : If you have movies of this format. 

                                                                                    Xvid : Your movie is black, try this one.           

                                                                                    TechSmith: For video tutorials created with Camtasia Studio.

                                                       Audio Codec      AC3 Filter : Your StarWars movie have no sound, try this one.

                                                  7- All your softwares.

                                                  8- Anti-Virus software. At the end only. Cinema 4D don't install with the Anti-Virus working.

                                                  9- Windows Firewall: Go to Settings/Network Connections . Right-Click your connection,

                                                                                       choose Properties, Advanced Tab : check "Protect my computer"

                                                                   (If your Peer to Peer File Sharing don't work,  uncheck "Protect my computer")
