The Dunnville
Mudcats Camping Club began in the fall of 1969 when a group of ten families met
at the Union Gas Hall on Pine Street and were addressed by Ian Filmore, a
director of the Provincial Board of Canadian Family Camping Federation and
member of Steel City Campers in Hamilton.
Over the years membership has fluctuated as high as 33 families and as low as
five. Regardless of the numbers, the club is very active with ages ranging from
young children to senior citizens.
The club’s annual campout is the Surprise Campout held the weekend after Labour
Day in September. Throughout the summer, campouts are attended about twice a
month. The December meeting is replaced with a Christmas party, complete with
food and exchange gifts. In February, the regular monthly meeting is followed by
a meal and games.
The club meets in the common room of Brantwood Villa at 1 Robert Dell Court in
Cayuga at 3 p.m. on the first Sunday of every month September through May,
excluding December.
