DETECT A LEAK: Add food coloring to the toilet tank.  Wait 10 minutes.  If it shows up in the bowl, you've got a leak.

SINK STAINS: For dark stains, like rust, rub your sink with a paste made of Borax and lemon juice. Lighter stains can be removed simply by rubbing with a piece of cut lemon.

SHOWER DOORS: To keep shower doors shiny and clear, use a soft cloth moistened with baby oil. It prevents scum build-up from dirt and soap. And hard water spots won't appear for several months

Glass Shower Doors: To get your shower door clean, shiny, and streak-free rub with a damp sponge soaked in white vinegar.

TOILET BOWL CLEANERS
* Scrub with a solution of 1/2 c. Borax in a gallon of water for cleaning and disinfecting.
* Clean frequently with a solution of baking soda and water. Sprinkle baking soda around the rim and scrub with a toilet brush as needed.
* Drop in two Alka-Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and flush.

To create a fresh, clean aroma in the bathroom, toss a sheet of fabric softener in the wastebasket. Or dab a bit of perfume on a light bulb. It floods the room with scent when the light is turned on.

REMOVING HAIR SPRAY FROM WALLS: Put a few drops of shampoo and warm water on a sponge or cloth to wipe down the wall. Rinse with clear warm water to remove any residue.

LINOLEUM FLOORS: To get magic marker or ink stains off of your linoleum floors in a breeze, just spray some hairspray on them. To hide scratches or burn marks on linoleum floors is to cover them with automobile touch-up paint. Choose a color that matches your floor. The "touch-up" will endure countless washings.

STAINLESS STEEL SINKS AND BATHROOM FIXTURES: Here's a couple of ideas for your sink. Rub stainless steel sinks with lighter fluid if rust marks appear. After the rust disappears, wipe with your regular kitchen cleaner. Spots on stainless steel can be also removed with white vinegar. Use a cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol to remove water spots from stainless steel. And club soda will shine up stainless steel.

Two excellent fixture cleaners are: To save time and money while providing the best shine possible to bathroom fixtures, use an old cloth which has been dunked in kerosene. Kerosene removes scum quickly and the odor will only remain for awhile. Spray the fixtures liberally with Spray and Wash laundry soil and stain remover. Rub with a cloth for an excellent shine.

And lastly, try crumpling up a piece of aluminum foil and scouring your stainless steel sinks and faucets. (Note: this will act as an abrasive so do not do it too often as it rubs off part of the metal.) Also, you can try commercial cleaning pads such as SOS or use very fine steel wool (400 or 600 grit).

Some stainless steel sinks have a nickel plating on them which makes them very shiny. If this surface is worn off, you may not be able to get the sink shiny again.

Take auto polish and put it on the sink and fixtures after they have been polished. This helps keep the water spots off.

DRAIN OPENERS
* To unclog a drain, pour 1/4 c. of baking soda down the drain followed by 1/2 c. of white vinegar. Let sit for a few minutes then pour a kettle of boiling water down the drain to flush.
* Pour 1/4 c. salt down the drain, followed by boiling water, to keep drains unclogged.
* Pouring boiling water down the drain once a week can keep it from getting blocked.
* To prevent clogged drains, always use a drain strainer. Use a mechanical snake or plunger to unclog a drain.

OLD FASHIONED DRAIN CLEANER: Pour 1 c. baking soda down the drain. Pour 1 pt. white vinegar down the drain. Let sit for 1 hour. Run hot water to flush the pipes. If it's a basement drain, use a bucket of boiling water. If the pipe is plugged with hair, etc. this probably won't clear it; you'll need something stronger. But this method will control odors and keep drains sweet.

CHROME FIXTURES: Use new or used fabric softener sheets to shine the chrome-plated fixtures in your bathroom and kitchen. The chrome will sparkle like new. Also, for kitchen fixtures, don't toss your lemons after squeezing the juice. Rub the pulp on your faucet and wipe with a cloth for shiny chrome. Then put them through your garbage disposal to sweeten your drain.

To easily wipe away soap scum and other junky stuff from your chrome fixtures and even look alike chrome, simply poor a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto a cleaning cloth or paper towel and wipe it away, you don't even have to apply any pressure; it's amazing! Alcohol will kill the germs and it is streak free.

Grout Mildew: Use hydrogen peroxide to get rid of the hard to remove mildew that collects in the grouting around the bathroom faucets. Pour it on directly and it instantly softens the dirt so you can remove it with just one wipe! It will also whiten the grout!
