The Courtship And Marriage Of
Clive Wayne Meairs Sr And Buna Cora (Stanberry) Meairs

Clive was 25 years old. He worked as a truck driver for the Jackson Walker Company; it was located at Murdock street and the railroad in Wichita Kansas. He hauled coal, sand, rock and fire wood.
Buna was 18 years old. She worked as cook and dishwasher in a small cafe near downtown Wichita.
They were introduced by a girl friend of theirs, that Buna went to church with. The friend wanted them to meet so she invited Clive to Buna's home. After introductions; they went for a ride in Clive's car. Six months later they were married.
Clive Wayne Meairs Sr. and Buna Cora Stanberry were married on December 24, 1929. The wedding was performed by Buna's father, The Reverend, Algenion Benona (A.B.) Stanberry. Buna's father was hit by a car a few weeks before the wedding. He suffered a broken leg. He was not able to go to the church because of the cast on his leg, so the wedding took place in her father's home at 1100 N. St. Francis, Wichita Kansas.
They were married for 49 years. Clive and Buna were separated only by Clive's demise. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 24, 1979, if Clive would have lived.
Their marriage produced 5 children: Clive Wayne Jr., Earl Dean, Carolyne Sue, Buck DeWayne and Jimmy Quince.
They had their hard times, but they stuck together through thick and thin. Almost 50 years, they were together. That is quite an accomplishment in my way of thinking.
