6-8 May 2005 we camped at Netherurd. The sun shone for most of the weekend for once! We worked on the world issues interest badge. On the first night one of the guides had a birthday so we had a birthday cake. The chaffinch was a regular visitor & incredibly tame! |

As part of the badge we made mobiles of peace symbols using pipecleaners and card (right). We also tried three types of non verbal communication (below). We tried sign language, semaphore and charades. The co-operative games were hilarious! |

On Saturday night we had a campfire with lots of silly songs (this was an action song - that's why the pics are blurred!) Eight guides had their promise ceremony at the campfire.
We cooked most of our own meals on open fires in our patrols. The fireshelters were great... when they stayed up!
Each morning we had to build a bedding rack - a gadget made from wood and string to keep all the luggage off the ground through the day. It keeps everything dry and stops the grass from being suffocated.
Another part of the badge was to try carrying water and think of ways it could be made easier, particularly for people in the developing world who have to carry water every day. For extra realism we got the water from the stream (but we didn't drink it!)
One patrol arranged their own menu - here they are with their mud pudding with bugs!
