HISTORY
Welcome to Law Enforcement Post 122. We meet at the City of Miami Porice Dept. South District Sub-Station. The Post was Chartered on November 26,1997. After several weeks of planning and the final approval at Chief Donald Warshaw and Major Noel Rojas the South District Oommander,Explorer Post 122 soon became a reality at the South District Sub-Station and became the Miami Police Departments third Explorer Post. The Explorer Post was organized to expand the Miami Police Depa~menfs Law Enforcement Explorer Program and give high school students more opportunities to learn about careers in law enforcement. Officer George Fernandez became the ftrst Advisor to the post. He or~anized and recruited police officers to serve as Advisors. He also prepared the necessary training through the Boy Scouts of America. Soon thereafter high school students were recruited from Miami Sr High School and Corar Gables Sr. High School. The first Post 122 meeting was held on November26, 1997. The rneeling was attended by eleven hr~h school students. Elections for Post Officers were held shortly after the Post was organized. Gloria Romoro, a seniorfrom Miami Sr. High School was elected Post 122's first Captain Since its establishment in November26! 1997, Post 122 has ~ontinued to grow and has become one of the best Law Enforcement Explorer Posts in the Nation. Our Post has been innovative in many areas. ExplorerlSgt. Joel M. Torres, a senior at Coral Gables Sr. High and Post 422's first sergeant helped establish the first Explorer Bike Patrol Detail. He was assisted by Officer William Marrtinez who provided the training the explorers needed to become proftient bike riders. The first Bike Patrol saw action at the 1998 Lincoln-Manti Camporee.The second event the Bike Patrol was used was at the 1998 Sea Explorer Rendevouz at Hurricane Park in the U.S. Coast Guard Communications Station in South Dade. The Ride A Long Program was established by Officer Tony Diaz. Officer flia;, a former Law enforcement Explorer prepared the training the flew explorers needed to become the best. Our Ride a Long Gurdelines ~ere soon approved by the National Boy Scout of America Office in Texas. The first Ride A Long exam was given on February 2 ,199S. Post 122 explorers were soon riding in patrol units with police officers that had qolunteered to participate in the program and teach our young exprorers wrhat law enforcement was at about.
