Tools of our Trade

The instruments we play are reproductions based on original early instruments. These were often grouped in families, or consorts - different sizes of matching instrumentts. This was done in order to have a set of instruments attuned to each other, and to overcome the limited range of each size, much like a 4 part vocal group consisting of soprano, alto, tenor and bass.

recorders, krummhorns, sacbuts, flute, shawms, dulcians, rackets, hurdy gurdy, lute, cittern, viols, hurdy gurdy, huemmelchen bagpipe, small harp, bowed psaltery, percussion (tabors, nakers, tambourines, bells, cymbals, castanets)

Be sure to check our link page to find out much more about early instruments.
