What is Olestra?
Olestra is a fat substitute the Lay's® Potato Chip company is testing in three cities across the nation. Olestra was found in what is called Max Chips. They come as Original chips, Ruffles, Doritos, and Tostios. The three test cities are: Sioux City, Iowa; Grand Island, Nebraska; and Eau Claire, Wisconsin (the place where I got my chips).
Who is trying to stop Olestra from coming on the market?
Center for Science in the Public Interst (CSPI) is trying to stop Olestra products from coming on the market cause they say it causes most people to have diarreha syptoms. They have nicknamed Sioux City, Grand Island, and Eau Claire "the diarreha capital of the USA." They are the same group that banned coconut oil from movie popcorn a few years ago because of the amount of fat in it.

I cannot believe that you are endorsing Olestra (Olean) as a healthy
product with few side effects. Are you insane? Have you just been ignoring
all of the reports stating the blatantly obvious side effects of eating
anything with this laxative (seeing as how that's what it basically is)?
Are you high? Two words: Anal leakage. If anyone I know eats anything with
Olestra in it, as soon as the inevitable side effects occur, I'm going to
advise them to send their underwear to you.

Have you ever tried olestra chips before? Or are you just
believing the stupid things CSPI is telling everyone? If you
start off eating only a few olestra chips and eatting more and
more as your body gets use to it, you will have no problems at
all, and that is a fact.

Thought you'd like to know about a recent article I wrote, "Ole Olestra!" I
consumed multiple bags of Olestra chips over a period of several weeks and
monitored my bowel movements.

Keep up the fine work,

Good page, lots of facts and research on it. But, be careful if
you have a weak stomach, some pictures are a bit graphic. :)
