Gordon's Gin tests Alaska mettle today
If one were to base it on the results of last Friday's weekend
blowouts, today's featured match between a team which won so
handily and one which lost so badly should be a ho- hum affair.
Well, maybe yes, maybe no.
But judging from both teams' historical past, the PBA All-Filipino
Cup game between Gordon's Gin and Alaska Milk at 4:15 p.m.
should have revenge as its main plot, the very reason why it
shouldn't be counted off as just one of those so-so games.
In the main game, Pure Foods, seeking to come back from that
0-2 start, try to ride the momentum of that triumph against Pop
Cola in another big winner vs. heavy loser setto at 7:15 p.m.
Undefeated in three outings, their last conquest having been a
lopsided 111-97 rout of Pop Cola the other night, the Boars
should be the overwhelming favorites against the Alaskans, who
after savoring that rare grand slam last year appear to be
struggling in their first three games this conference.
That three-peat, fashioned at the expense of the very same
franchise that continues to enjoy overwhelming crowd support,
could also be the reason why coach Sonny Jaworski of the
Boars are not wont to counting their blessings this early.
"Marami pang dapat trabahuin," he said after that ugly rout of
the Bottlers. "What's three wins compared to other games that
we still have to play?" he asked. -MANNY ANGELES
