My parents and grandparents have been loyal SF 49er season
ticket holders ever since I can remember, so naturally I grew up a fan.
I remember the day that I learned all about football. I was at my
grandmothers hanging out with her while everyone was at the game (she was
sick that game day, so I said I'd stay with her and let my brother (a football
maniac) go to the game with Poppy (my g'pa)). We sat there and watched
the game and she taught me the basic rules. I still don't get offsides
in ANY freaking sport, but I, at least, understand the rest of the game!
LOL
Anyhow...I was always a Jerry Rice and Joe Montana fan
(common, eh? LOL), but when they brought Steve in, something intrigued
me. It almost bugged me that they would get someone to, *gasp*, one
day replace Joe...so I was naturally jealous! But there was something
else there....an no, it wasn't just cuz he was cute (mom!!!) cuz that was
in the days that I thought boys were yucky! LOL (wouldn't think
I ever was like that knowing me now!)
As time went on, and Steve got more playing time, I really
began to like him as a player and became a huge fan. He has done
so much for the 49ers...and not just throwing the ball for some yardage
or a touchdown...you can tell that he has a presence and is an inspiration
on the field (not to mention a target to the other teams! I will
get revenge on anyone who is reason for another concussion to this man!!!
I had to deal with a father who has brain damage, AND one of my favourite
hockey players who was forced to retire at too young of an age due to concussions...something
needs to be done about this. Educate and be aware!!!). Further
into his career, I learned about how intelligent he is (a law degree...VERY
impressive!), how he is to his fans and even to other people who do not
know him (no, I am not refering to that commercial in the car with the
girl who doesn't watch football! LOL), and what he has done for the
community. What really makes me love him even more is the fact that
he works so much for children. He has such a dedication to helping
their causes from abuse, to AIDS, to improving their quality of life through
many means and so on. He is a major inspiration to me since I am
studying to work with athletes, with more of a focus in children to get
them off the streets and more into a world of support and health.
It is wonderful to see that there are people out there that are there to
help kids like he does! For all this and more, I dedicate this page
to him and applaude him for his valient efforts on and off the football
field!
