Ian's legends/idols are Mohammed Ali, Michael Jordan, Dawn Fraser, Carl Lers, Kieren Perkins, Mark Spitz, Alex Popov and Don Bradman.

Ian says his pet hate is people who don't indicate at roundabouts.

After his swimming career Ian wants to finish his HSC and go to University to study psychology or medicine. He wants to earn his living as either a psychologist or surgeon.

His favourite food is McDonalds Hash Browns, Space Food Sticks and Cherry Ripe thickshakes and his favourite eatery is Padstow Inn Chinese Restaurant.

Ian has been signed with Australian tv channel, Channel 7.

When Ian went over to Japan for the Pan Pacific Championships, in '97, he was out for dinner and thought that the very hot spice wasabi, was a green vegetable mash and put it all over his food. When he ate it and his mouth was on fire he reached for the closed drink which was orange juice which he is allergic to!

Ian is the youngest male swimmer to be selected on the Australia swimming team since John Konrads in 1956.

Ian's favourite tv shows are Friends, Ally McBeal and Dharma and Greg.

While in Kuala Lumpar for the Commonwealth Games Ian had 2 huge boxes of caramel sticks shipped over to him.

Ian was voted junior male athlete of the year at the 1998 Australian Sports Awards and male world swimmer of the year by US Swimming World magazine.

Ian is an ambassador for 'Life Line' a Australian telephone counseling service, which he has appeared on shows such as The Panel and Denise where he cooked one of his favourite meals, a pasta casserole dish.

Ian trains 20 hours a week in the pool and three hours a week in the gym.

Ian has an arm span of 190cm and his body fat levels are approx. 7% compared to 15% which is the average of boys his age.

Ian does two or three promotional appearances a week.

When Ian was in grade 2 his teacher told his mother, Margaret, that he had the head of a 21 year old.

Ian now wears a full body swimsuit made by Adidas. He believes it will make him go faster but he may not be able to wear it for Australia because of a sponsorship clash with Speedo.
