Welcome to my Superstars® page!

The Superstars was a television sports competition that was very popular in the 1970's and still continues to this day. Superstars competitions involved the great athletes from around the world in sports other than their own. Its success led to other "trash sports" such as the World's Strongest Man, Battle of the Network Stars and Challenge of the Sexes.

UPDATE:

Finished updating through 2001, plus the 2003 British Superstars competitions, but I am still missing the results of several competitions, especially between 1975 and 1979. Patrick Premo sent me a copy of a Superstars program from 1981, many thanks Patrick!

Thanks to Warren Pilkington for sending me DVD's of the 2003 Men's and Women's British Finals! Warren also sent me a bunch of European and British competitions that have been aired on ESPNClassic in Britain.

On the following pages, you will be able to find results of many of the competitions over the years, and more information will be added in the future. Anyone who can help me by providing information that I may be missing, especially of competitions in foreign countries, please email me. Also send me a note if you encounter a broken link of misinformation. If anyone has any videotapes of competitions from 1983 or earlier (or the 1990 finals), I would love to get a hold of a copy. I will make a DVD copy and return you the DVD and VHS.

NEWS:

BIG NEWS! ABC-TV has announced that there will be a six-week Superstars series this summer. The competiton format will be different as eight celebrities will be teamed with athletes and compete in a series of athletic events. For the article in Variety, click here.

Sadly, Brian Budd recently passed away.  The three-time World Superstars champion died of a heart attack on June 11, 2008 at the age of 56.

Another sad piece of news. David Vine, the host of the BBC coverage of Superstars events in the 1970's and 1980's and the author of the book The Superstars in 1977, passed away on January 11th. He died of a heart attack just more than a week after celebrating his 73rd birthday. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.

There was a Superstars competition in Britain this summer.  It was a team competition and featured some notable British athletes of the recent past.  For more information: click here.
