Roza Galieva
Roza Galieva first participated
in a World event at the 1991 World Championships, where, as the youngest
member of the Soviet Team, she earned a gold medal. She competed
at the 1992 Olympics and won a gold medal with the Unified Team.
She qualified for the AA finals but was replaced by teammate Tatiana Gutsu,
who went on to win the AA gold, because of an "injury".
She competed at the 1993 World Championships representing Uzbekistan where
she finished 10th in the AA. She was scheduled to compete at the
1994 World Championships but a mistake in the Uzbekistan entries prevented
her from participating. She disapeared from international competition
most of 1994 and 95 while she was obtaining Russian Citizenship.
She made her Russian debut in Canada and the U.S. where she placed second
to Alexandra Marinescu in a Pre-Olympic event in Atlanta. At the
1996 European Championships she won the gold medal on the balance beam.
She competed at the 1996 Olympics as a part of the silver medal winning
Russian Team and participated in the AA finals and Balance Beam finals.
She has made no plans for retirement and continues to compete internationally.
