The facts on this page are as of the summer of 1997.

Permian High School has been in the Texas State Championship Football Game in the big school division more times than any other school in Texas.   (For those in Texas reading this, by the big school division I mean when 4A was the largest division + now with 5A being the largest division.  I am not talking about the two divisions within 5A.)

These stats are from Dave Campbell's Texas Football On-line (6/97):
5-A Playoff Records
Playoff appearances: 23,........ Odessa Permian and Houston Yates
STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS: 6,........ Odessa Permian
Championship game appearances: 11,........ Odessa Permian
Playoff Victories: 75,........Odessa Permian

I want to thank those of you have have visited and participated these pages over the years. As you can see, I haven't updated them regularly because I live so far away and am just too busy. I've decided to keep the pages up and hope you will continue to enjoy them. If anyone would like to take these pages over for me, please email me.

Known around the World !

P ermian is known around the world. The London Times has written articles about this football legacy.   A Pulitzer Prize winning author wrote a best selling book, Friday Night Lights. This man moved his family to Odessa for a year in order to write a book about Permian and high school football. While I disagree with many aspects of the book, it is an exciting book and easy to read. People from around the world have written to me saying they loved the book and now love Permian High School. Permian has also been featured on 60 minutes, some of the national morning news shows and their music video ran a few times at the end of the Johnny Carson show (I am told).

[panther w/world backdrop] Around the fall of each year I used to enjoy watching tapes of past football games. But...during one of our moves my tapes were destroyed. :-( My favorites were the special tapes done by channel 7's guy..., the music video and these games:... REMEMBER? 1) Midland Lee game mentioned below, 2) Great come from behind victory against Arlington, 3) State - National game against Houston Aldine, 4) anything from 1975 team (My brother's senior year) and 1993 team (My son's senior year)

If you have copies of any tapes, have enjoyed my pages and wouldn't mind making me a copy.... I would be most grateful. If you'll email me I'll even send you the blank tapes and postage. I'm begging here! But I really miss watching these videos .... especially since I can't see the games in person anymore. (sorry about the pity party)

P ermian's games have been Televised Nationwide several times.  Besides the State Championship games, the most notable nationally televised game was a district game against our arch rival, Midland Lee Rebels in 1989.  Midland's small stadium was packed with a standing room only crowd of 15,000+ fans.  The atmosphere was electric. With 5 yards to go for the game winning touchdown, Lee's Farris Strambler is leveled by Permian's Parade High School All-American (and Pepsi's Player of the Year), Lloyd Hill. I mean LEVELED ! A major league tackle in a MAJOR game. MOJO The black and white sea on the east side of the stadium roared with excitement while Midland Lee's west side watched in stunned silence. MOJO...MOJO...MOJO... the fans cheered in unison. What excitement in victory and I'm sure agony in defeat for Midland Lee.  I must say that I really appreciate the rivalry between the two schools.  Midland Lee has made things much more interesting over the years.  While they have yet to win the State Championship game, they are always a great team. They are one of the few teams that did not seem intimidated by Permian...along with Plano. Join us here at the "MOJO FORUM"
Submit YOUR comments on high school football, the Columbine tragedy or what ever else high school related that's on your mind.

Permian went on that year to an undefeated season, won the State Championship and was named:

1989 ESPN National Champions! ! !

This is really a fictional award because there is no playoff between states.  It is still an honor that we appreciate and cherish.

I'm considering creating a page of "favorite (or memorable) games.... what do you think? If you have fond football memories and want to submit an essay (or just a comment) about it... email me and I'll create the page.. favorite games
fave games

With all these achievements....Football is not All that Permian High School is about.
