Our first stop in England was Clifford Tower in York...an area that was notorious for being sacked by the Scots.
The castle itself was pretty well overrun and destroyed, so the English waited and built another more modern version when the Scots calmed down...

The Romans brought their extensive bath setup all the way from Italy to Chesters... where it could be put to some good use, no doubt.
The North Tyne river provides a beautiful scenic backdrop for the Chesters Fort outpost.
Our next stop was the Floors Castle... not so great a name for an otherwise fine residence. But it had just closed for the day.
Soon thereafter, we arrived at Jedburg Abbey, near the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots. It was closing as well, so on we went...
Here's the long view of what was probably a very interesting castle named Thirstlane. But, you guessed it, they had already gone home for the day.
This is Castle Graigmillar, within the city limits of Edinburgh. Closed. Next time, we spend less time exploring Hadrian's wall!
