Sligo Rovers F.C.

Sligo Rovers 2-2 Bohemians

The Rovers Sligo conceded a late goal at the Showgrounds, letting Bohemians salvage a draw. Bohs had started the game brightly. Joe Hanrahan hit the bar with a free kick in the second minute and in the eighth he crossed another free onto the head of his brother Peter who made no mistake from close range.
A large crowd urged the Rovers forward and were rewarded just before half time when Steve Jones equalized with a looping header from a Padraig Moran cross. The second half began with both sides trying to play attacking football. Sligo missed a couple of chances where it looked easier to score. It was beginning to look like a 1-1 draw when with ten minutes left Rovers were awarded a free twenty five yards out. While Bohs keeper, Dempsey was sorting out his wall, player/manager Nicky Reid curled the ball into the top corner of the net to give Rovers the lead. Bohs struck back three minutes later when a Tony O'Connor cross from the left was headed into the Rovers goal by substitute Graham Lawlor. On the whole, a draw was a fair result.
Rovers were let down somewhat by Westhead's reluctance to play the ball short to either full backs. He persisted in kicking the ball long and despite Falcon Rose ably putting himself about, Bohs were able to clear the ball away easily. Rose, who was playing only his second game for Sligo after his hat trick against Derry was rather subdued and looked a little short of match practice. Jones looks like being a midfield terrier. However there are serious doubts about the defence who looked very flat footed at times, Hutchinson being the only exception.

Rovers: Westhead, Southworth, Hutchinson, Reid, Daly, Ogden, Jones, Moran, Thew, Rose, Lynch.
