What is the Childrens Preservation Society?

CPS is a non-profit, non-governmental, advocacy organization made up of a network of parents, guardians and concerned citizens, within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, dedicated to the preservation of children, who; we believe; are becoming endangered as a direct result of substance abuse.

CPS strongly believes in working together with local Law Enforcement Agencies, Single County Authorities, School Districts, and local agencies/organizations/coalitions, in a cooperative effort to educate, prevent, and bring awareness to communities, those issues relevant to substance abuse.

Our Philosophy About Addiction

It is our philosophy that addiction is an illness which is uncurable, but is indeed treatable. We believe that addiction, like any other illness, is one that effects both the substance abuser and those who have contact with the abuser.

We further believe that the effects of the disease are experienced mentally, physically and spiritually, and that those effects are; again; felt by everyone ... expecially by the families of the abuser. As a result, we believe, that families hurt together and need to heal together.

Our Vision

The vision of CPS is that of DRUG-FREE COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA.

In an attempt to see this vision become a reality, it is our intention to establish CPS County Chapters throughout the Commonwealth in hopes of achieving a steadfast foundation of consistent, long-term programs of prevention, education, and awareness relevant to substance abuse.

Our Purpose ... Our Goals

In order to be most effective in the prevention of substance abuse, CPS strives to bring together ALL sectors within a community to work AS a community ... FOR their community.

To achieve this purpose, we have established the following goals:

  • 1. To enhance and restore the quality of life of both families and substance abusers.

  • 2. To provide age-appropriate programs of education, prevention and awareness.

  • 3. To provide interpersonal support groups for families of substance abusers.

  • 4. To refer those in need to local resources for support, counseling, and/or treatment.

  • 5. To advocate for the rights, integrity, and needs of addicts and their families.

  • 6. To provide positive parenting skills information to those within the community.

  • 7. To work with, and morally support existing programs of prevention, education, and awareness within the community.

  • 8. To encourage, work with, and/or assist in establishing drug prevention coalitions.

  • 9. To encourage, work with, and/or assist in establishing Neighborhood Crime Watches.

  • 10. To develop, and/or initiate programs of prevention, education, and awareness within the community.

    Meet Our Founder

    Founder/Executive Director
    Victoria J. Fisher
    Founder/Executive Director

"Founded on July 8, 1997, CPS was developed as a direct result in seeking treatment for my minor child who suffers from the illness of drug addiction. After experiencing; first hand; the many, many obstacles, and repercussions of this disease, I've come to realize that we were not the only family in our County; or State; that had been living this horrific nightmare. (Common sense told me that if my child was using; chances are; she was using with someone else's child/children!)

In an attempt to help both children and families suffering from the repercussions of substance abuse, I had committed myself to service in the areas of prevention, education, and awareness relevant to substance abuse.

I present addiction as seen; and lived; through my eyes ... those of an addict in recovery since April 15, 1981. Presenting a total of twenty-five (25) years of hands-on experience, my goal is to give the general population a deeper understanding of drugs, addiction, recovery, and the effects that substance abuse has on an individual, family and a community.

I am extremely thankful for the insight I've gained as a result of my personal life experiences. Those past experiences allow me the opportunity to; potentially; make a positive difference in the lives of many. What a wonderful gift my Higher Power has given me!

I'm very proud to be counted amongst the increasing number of voices that speak out on behalf of the integrity, rights, and needs of both the families and children of substance abuse."
