~Moon loves many of the stories found in the Bible. The ones he loves most are the ones detailing sexual deviation. There are several examples of these in the Bible. Lots daughters got their father drunk and lay with him sexually because he was getting old and had no wife and so would not be able to continue his lineage. His daughters took it upon themselves to become impregnated by him so that his seed would continue on the Earth. There is also the story of Tamar. Moon calls Tamar the greatest woman in the Bible. Why? She had made a deal with her father in law that he would give his son to wed her, and give her children. His other son (her first husband) had died without giving her children. It was Jewish custom for the brother to take his brother's wife if he died. The step father did give his other son to her but this son would have sex with her but spill his seed on the ground so as not to impregnate her. After he also died, the father in law told Tamar that if she would wait until his youngest son grew up, he would give him to her to bring her children. As time passed and the son grew to adulthood, he did not keep his promise and give him to Tamar. Finally the step father's wife died as well, and he went to another place. Hearing of this, Tamar decided to take matters into her own hands, and went to the place where the step father was. She covered her face and was taken for a prostitute by the step father. She allowed him to have sex with her (he didn't realize it was his step daughter) and she got pregnant in this way. Moon calls Tamar the greatest woman in the Bible because of this. I wouldn't call Tamar the greatest woman in the Bible. Certainly one of the more creative though.

~But, as a student of the Bible, here is the issue to me: No where in the Bible does it say that these events were God's will. No where did it say God instructed these people to act in the way they did. The Bible simply records ALL the history of the people within it's pages. The good, the bad and the ugly. David, for example, was a man after God's own heart according to the Bible. He also committed adultery and murdered a man because of it. Was adultery in this case God's will? Was murder God's will? Or what about the daughter of Herodias? She danced sensually for the King and pleased him so much that he offered her anything she wanted as a gift. Her mother told her to ask for the head of John The Baptist on a Platter! For the sake of his promise, the King had John's head cut off just as she asked! Had God instructed Herodias to dance sexually so she could get someone beheaded? Surely he did! I mean come-on, there it is right there in the Bible! There are also examples in the Bible of father's who went with their sons into the big city, and slept with the same prostitute one after the other. There is no evidence that these men were judged for this action directly by God. Did that make it God's will? Certainly not. What Moon is doing, is perverting the actual record of the Bible to justify his own sexual infidelity and weaknesses. This way Moon can preach on sexual purity, commit adultery and remain the messiah all the while. Clever isn't he? Or devious! Another example of Moon's "Adultery as God's will" is found in his version of Mary, the mother of Jesus.

~The Bible claims that Jesus was born of a virgin, who knew (had sexual relations) no man. The Bible claims that it was a miraculous birth, and a Sign from God Himself of the messiah's coming. Moon has a much more "Earthly" explanation. Moon claims that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was told to have sexual relations with a married man named Zecharriah. Zecharriah was the father of John the Baptist, and Moon claims his wife Elizabeth was also in on this "adulterous instruction from God". Thus, Zecharriah is the father of Jesus Christ, Moon says. Having debated this issue with several Moonies on the Newsgroup: alt.religion.unification on the internet, it was promply dropped by them. In other words: They lost!

~But why did they lose? Because the Bible is particularly clear on this issue. And I challenged them with the biblical evidence and the admonition: This is what the Bible says about it, if you don't believe the Bible than I understand that, but at least be honest and say "I don't believe what the Bible is saying", rather than deceptively suggesting that the Bible says something it doesn't. There, I detail the argument on both sides. Let me just say that Moonies are often devistated by the information I present them. Is it because I am a genius? My wife will readily put that notion to rest for you! No. I am just using one God given faculty that Moonies are trained not to use: Critical Thought. Moonies will not question Moon because he is "The Messiah". The Messiah cannot be wrong! So they may question leaders, or themselves, but never Moon or his Teaching. Unfortunately for them, Critical Thinking is one of the best ways we have to spot deceivers such as Moon. Destructive Cults are especially skilled in the disabling of this ability in their followers.
